Sounds high to me.
Let me make a short, open, blanket comment. There are no good guns. There are no bad guns. Any gun in the hands of a bad man is a bad thing. Any gun in the hands of a descent person is no threat to anyone--- except bad people. -- Charleton Heston

Guns are not good, they are not evil. Save those descriptions for the people holding the firearm. -- Unknown

What options are on the gun? Bird barrel? Extended mag? Is it a riot gun? Speed feed stock?

Older Mossberg model 500A Defense shotgun, built for a Govt agency, it’s a pump action shotgun chambered for the 2 ¾ and 3 inch 12 gauge shell. This little shotgun only has an 18 1/2" barrel (with a cylinder choke) and the barrel is marked as such and was made by Mossberg. It is just about mint and the blue on the barrel is great as is the receiver, and the bore is fine and it has a composite stock, that also in good condition. Great home protection gun. THis gun wasn't shot much, just sat in the rack in the truck. That is a quote from the seller.

Bud's Guns.com is selling brand new Mossberg 500s with 18" barrel, heat shield (removable) and an add-on pistol grip for only $299 (plus FFL fee). I think your seller is about $25-100 too high depending on condition of gun.

You're welcome. Dunham's sports has the very same deal for a few months now. Not sure if you have Dunham's in Chicago but there are many here in Michigan.

$200 for a gently used Mossberg 500 is a great deal. I probably would have grabbed it for that price as well. I think I would have tried the pistol grip for a while just for fun though. Never shot one of those. Looks kind of awkward but who knows, maybe I'd like it.

The 500, and 590 use the same receiver, all you would need is a 590 barrel, and magazine setup, them five minutes to swap it over.

The heat shields are made for the 500, yet they issue them with the 590, and they will move under recoil and scratch the hell out of the barrel.

In theory, but most agencies who acquired the Trench guns after WW1 removed the shields. Skeet shooters fire hundreds of rounds from their shotguns on any given day on the range and manage not to burn themselves on the bare metal barrel.

Before you get all set to have an 18 1/2" barrel with a pistol grip ask Millman if his wrist has healed from shooting my 18 1/2" mossberg 500 last year. Expect some naughty words in reply.

I shoot mine with magnum triple buck loads, it's not a problem once you get used to it, I have been shooting that gun since the 80's
