Steyr M95

Post by RC932 »

So I'm considering making another rifle purchase after getting some more money in the bank. I've been thinking on the Steyr M95 rifle since I've seen one on gunbroker for 195. That a fair price for a purchase? Any info anyone has on these will be quite helpful as well. I haven't looked into this type of rifle. All I really know about it is that it has the magazine style used in the Italian Carcano and French Berthier

Same here.... I got 2 from J&G before they sold out. Check some of the distributors first... They may have good deals still.

I would say 150 and under unless it is a special one like a Bulgarian. Some people have ordered the regular ones and gotten Bulgarian for the cheap price. Check the ditributers first and then watch for good deals on gb. I paid 150 for one a while back and 125 for a nice Budapest not to long ago. great carbines and a blast to shoot.

If you have a C&R license you can get a Steyr 1895 carbine from SOG for $89.00.

I lack a C&R so I don't think I can take advantage of that $89 price tag. Do they have the rifle length model at SOG and can I get it from them through a local dealer?

Rifle length Steyrs are in a whole different price range. They bring much more unless you get real lucky

i was at a gun store and noticed 2 Steyr 95s their. i instantly fell in love. not much bigger than a M1 Carbine but shoots a 8mm 210 grain bullet. well i found a beauty private party. it came with 80 rounds of 1938 surplus ammo for 200 bucks. also came with end blocks. it looks un used. i already took it apart and cleaned it. next to the range with a hefty slip on pad.
hard to believe such a nice looking rifle is not more popular. ammo price is not a issue. if i want to shoot a lot i will shoot the M-44 & T 53.

I agree, here is one the $99 specials I picked up from J&G last year. Very light weight and prolly a little more kick than the M44.

Is that clip just to charge the mag or is it required to make the magazine feed properly?

Yes, it is required, like on a M1 Garand. These don't pop out the top like a Garand though. They fall out the bottom when you cycle the last round. Mannlicher design.

I just got a couple of Hungarian M95/34 from SOG and they were $109 each, both are nice condition though I'd spend the extra $10 and get a hand select if I was going to keep one.
Not sure if the $89 are out of stock but I don't see them listed now.

do they typically come with a clip, or do you have to find them elsewhere?

Unless purchased from a private party that obtained the clip and is including in the sale, the rifle will not include the clip. the clips are available though, I believe I paid $10.00 bucks for two. It can be fired a single shot until the clip is located. Lots of a history with these, widely used by German forces as a substitute standard rifle in WWII

The $89 ones are the $109 ones. They are running a 12 days of Xmas sale & there is one day they are at a reduced price. Order early.

thanks. I looked up some online and they can be had for $7-$10 or so. The price of ammo is the only thing keeping me from getting one. I reload but don't have the time (or desire) to add another caliber
