Yeah I fear you are indeed right. As Mosins go up in price we will see more and more attempts by people to make complete bogus ones for our consumption. I have seen quite few on here I would never bought and being touted as the real thing but I just bite my lip and try not to point out the failings of the rifles and march on like a good trooper. If they ever try and sell them to a knowledgeable and well versed collector they will be torn to pieces or the collector will just pass and walk on to the next rifle. Many super collectors have the common sense to not offend the seller by pointing out he has a bogus rifle because the next one the seller has may be the real thing and desirable too. Just something you learn as you go through life and gain some knowledge about what is the real smart way to conduct life. Dam shame I never have learned things too well. The only thing that seems to stick in my craw is that many other people who see no negative posts on a rifle think that is the way things should be on those types of rifles.
I should not even think about posting this but here is a prime example going out of the line of modern Milsurp rifles. I collected and still have a few Civil War vintage rifles. I saw a particular Sharps carbine with military markings on the stock but no where else. The rifle was attributed to a certain Conn. Cavalry outfit by the stock. It also looked to have been back to the factory for refit at sometime too. It was priced by the Civil War Cavalry connection pretty high. really wanted to buy the thing but it was priced way over $1,000 which was what I wanted to spend. I knew and often talked to Frank Sellers (for years he appraised weapons for a well know auction house and wrote the premier book on Sharps rifles) I went over to Frank and asked his opinion of the gun. He started out by saying he could not make an opinion on the rifle because it was a fellow dealer and that violated his principles. He did however talk me through what I thought happened was refitted by the factory. He talked me through the pulling of parts from a pile and how that would effect the collector value of a rifle. I had my answer in a round about way but learned a bit from that experience.

I would have gone pretty close to 300 on it if I had seen it. But my wife would probably rather catch me on a Ukrainian singles website than GB after this year of purchases.

She catches you looking at that and your gonna get clipped. Remember the three day rule, you missing for three days and we get to split up your gear, Admins get to cherry pick the pile after two days
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
