I spotted him hiding in a clump of cogan grass I'm trying to bush hog around.

Me too....just came in from digging our car out and I was looking for coyotes, wolves and one of those dang 20' pythons  We were in Yellowstone recently and saw a small (5) pack of wolves, fortunately at a respectable distance. Haven't seen many bears out lately, guess they are getting ready for their nap.

Getting ready to hunt coyotes up in northern Maine.......full moon the week before Christmas, cold, snow, coyotes and NO SNAKES...happy happy happy.

We get "Great White' sharks here in summer and I much prefer them over snakes. A 15 foot shark is mild compared to a 15 foot snake..... :big shock: :big shock: :big shock: :big shock: :big shock: YEEKS!!!!!!!

No snakes is the good news...but sharks! I'm having difficulty choosing sharks over snakes :beek: Fortunately we don't see too many sharks or pythons 6,000 feet up in the Beartooth Mountain foothills. :D And I'm very grateful !

Good luck with the Coyotes....

For the rest of my life I hope to avoid wolves, snakes, bears, sharks, and Orcas, since nobody said Killer Whales yet.

Thanks for the advance warning. Yup, we've had about 3" so far and it's still coming down, not real heavy, just a steady snow fall. Wind chill in the 10-12 range. Mountains are to our South but so far the wind is coming straight out of the North.

One day in Yellowstone we saw a motorcycle rider stop his bike and walk up to a buffalo to get a photo---he was about 20' away and wouldn't have had a snowball's chance in Hades if that buffalo got cranky. Some people also get frighteningly close to bears to grab a "photo of a lifetime"---cut short by their stupidity. We saw one dude actually chase after a black bear who was trying to get away from the crazy human....my gawd. :beek: Chasing after a bear, with a camera as self defense, is not something I would recommend. :2cents: If that had been a mama Grizzly he would have been toast.

I ran over one about that size with the John Deere lawn tractor a few years back and it stopped the mower over top of him. I was cutting real thick grass that probably should have been bush hogged. Nothing like having a pissed off cottonmouth under a dead piece of machinery. I finally got it started back up and off of him. He'd lifted his head when I ran over him and was minus it when I pulled off of him.

My cousin and her husband are biologists that do research all over the world including near Yellowstone where his family has a cabin. The last time they were there they saw this fresh scratch. These are both well educated people with PhD's and they have their 3 year old out where that grizzly is marking his territory. My mother just shakes her head. We're no shrinking violets but there's certain things you don't do and tempting grizzles with a youngster is one.
