Picked up my first Mosin yesterday

Post by mosin_newb »

So I picked up my first Mosin 91/30 yesterday. It is a numbers matching 1932 Tula from what I can figure out. It has a nice bore and smooth bolt but this is about all I know. Can anyone identify the rest of the markings?

That is a very nice first :) As many of the pros will say, a lot of the marks are a mystery, but some of them are arsenal refurbishment marks.

Thanks. I spent a few hours trying to figure them out last night but I had no luck. I was able to pick it up for $130 from a private party. Stores around me tend to want $200 for garbage and $250 and up for decent rifles so I had to look for private party sales that didn't want to charge panic prices.

Lets see the whole rifle! Looks like brass end handguard too!

Looks like a nice refurb. Mix master of parts. Tula barrel (and likely receiver) but it seem that most of the other parts (nose cap, barrel bands) are Izhevsk. The other markings (tang, side of barrel, bolt and top of barrel) is anyone's guess. Inspection proof markings of some sort. I am not sure what the diamond on the top of the receiver is. I have seen this one often.

Thanks for the information. I was beginning to think I was just stupid and couldn't find them.

Thank you. I wanted to get one and wanted the hex because I like the look of them more but I think that this is the beginning of a new addiction. Just like AR's, I don't think I can have too many Mosins.

If I love shooting it like I love shooting my AR's, I'm probably getting divorced.

Good grief! Those are the same markings that are on my first (did I just say that!) Mosin Nagant!
Enjoy it!

good score. I looked at almost the same rifle (1931) for 250.00. didn't buy it. I surely would have for 130.00.

love the rifle. I believe the two concentric circles is an accuracy proof? or is that just speculation?
