Well, today was a shopping "bust". I went to the gun show up the road and though there were some impressive firearms and friendly dealers, nothing really caught my attention. There were 70 tables and mostly guns. About a good third were handguns. Mostl of the long guns were 60's and 70's commercial firearms...all great pieces, just not what I am after. I did see a little Carcano with bayonet that I picked up a couple of times. I finally walked out, leaving it on the table. I did find a 50's Russian made .22 match grade target rifle. It was in great shape and truly interesting...the damn thing weighed a ton too! There was not a single Mosin at the show.
So I head to the pawn shop to find out what the story is behind the $800 transaction. Well, it's making a bit more sense now. There was also an Enfield in the mix, but $800 cash out still seemed pricey for a pawn shop. He had the M44 behind the counter waiting for me to come in. Its a '52 Polish M44 with bayonet. The cleaning rod is missing and the bolt numbers don't match. It was in decent shape and very clean. It did have the large PW Arms import stamp. I asked the price and he came back with...$399
There was another guy standing there and we were talking. He has a small collection of Mosins and we discussed the M44 while my buddy was talking to the boss (he let me hang onto the rifle while he was away...a good sign

). Anyway, after he told me the price, he asked..."what are you thinking its worth?" I said...on the outside, $200. No offense, but from here, I would expect to walk away with in more like $150. We looked up Gunbroker and it seems the true value is maybe in the middle, but I was closer than he was lol. So we decided to leave it on the rack with the $399 price on it. Since it will most likely be there awhile, he told me to come back sometime later and we could talk pricing.
I guess it wasn't all that bad of a day. I got to see some cool guns...and I still have a pocket full of cash

Cocked, locked and ready to rock...
