'44 TIKKA Round Receiver 91/30

Post by TopperT »

Well I just went and did it again and chased after a rifle over at the Auction :chuckles: . I have wanted a Finnish M91/30 to go with my two 91/30 captures, so this one has a lot of the items I desired. The price???.....a tad high at $ 333.00 BUT its a round receiver-TIKKA so I figured it was worthy of the price  .
This is a 1944 TIKKA 91/30 on a M27 stock BUT its got the rare round receiver. From the photos it also has a LOT of plumb colour to the barrel :shifty:  :shifty: . I'll post more when she gets home  .

You didn't pay to much for your Tikka, those usually go $375.00 and up, and yours being in an M27 stock is an oddity.

Trust me you are good, and yes the round reciever 44 Tikka 91/30's are hard to find, with most being hex recievers.

Did some 'homework 'on this one, held my breath (or wallet as it is) :chuckles: and wanted it :Drool1: as the number of round receiver TIKKA 91/30 is indeed a short list. Looks to have all the 'uniqueness' while likely being in very good shooting condition. Looking forward to getting this one home and out to the range. Thanks for the feedback on price. I was determined to get the rifle BUT...........now my gun-fund, is scrapping bottom......:chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles:

Tikka only made approx 9000 of these in 1944 and a vast majority where hex recievers so a round reciever is at a premium. As for the gun budget, well I have been there, but remember sometimes you have to go big to get rare/ hard to find models, and todays "over paid" is tomorrows "bargin".

But you did good on this one, real good.

Thanks one & all for the kind words. NOW: Does look like there is a lot of "Barney Purple" present........any info on "B" or Belgium steel in these??? This looks VERY plumb in the one good photo that he had on the auction. To be honest, I also like the brass on the hand guard and of course the M27 stock. THAT is indeed a bit rare......( I HOPE :shifty: )...I went out on a bit of a limb here, draining down my gun $$$ reserve to Obama levels  .......I just really wanted an M91/30 TIKKA for my tiny group of WW II Finns.

Topper I agree that the price is out of line. I think you got a huge bargain. That is so nice, and the stock is a big plus in my book. The round receiver hits it out of the park!

Not sure about the B barrel plum thing. I have a sako that is more plum then the B barrel I have. I also have some really plum sights on some of them so I think it is other things that make it plum :D

The plum thing is due to the bluing process, not the barrel steel. I seem to remember reading it had something to due with the iron oxide content of the bluing solution.

Ya, I agree. I think I heard once it was nickel content. Its just I always keep wondering about it. Funny, its in so many places. I have one set of barrel bands on an M39 that look like I got them from Barney himself. My "B" too as well, is pale and my '44 SAKO is pure plumb.

Congratulations!
That's as cheap as you're going to find a Tikka 91/30 from what I've seen. Not a bad deal at all!
Of all the Finnish rifles, the Tikka 91/30 is about the only one you'll ever find with a round receiver. They show up from time to time, but you still got an uncommon, awesome rifle. I personally find the stock to be the best feature. :)

The only one that trumps it is a '43 round. I passed on a '43 round Empire Arms had several months ago, have been kicking myself ever since.

How about a round receiver m39? The last one I saw for sale was listed for about 900.00.

There are a few m39s and also there are B barrel m91s with round receivers.
