His and Hers Home Defense Shotguns

Post by A J »

Here are photos of my wife's and my HD shotguns. (Yeah, we're hillbillies.) :) Both receivers are about 15-20 years old.

Hers: Remington 870 12 gauge with an 18" Mossberg CYL barrel, a collapsible energy-absorbing stock, pistol grip, ammo holder, loaded with #6 shot low brass, slightly modified Outdoor Connection shotgun sling. I wanted her to get a youth model 20 gauge, but this is what she was most comfortable with: go figure. The stock is folded to its smallest configuration.

His: Remington 870 12 gauge with an 18" Remington IMP barrel, original wood furniture. Loaded with 00 buck.

Very nice indeed!

We used to have his and hers shotguns, until hers was stolen in a burglary. It was recovered but until I can figure out a way to secure our home defense shotguns without getting them out every evening and locking hem up every morning they stay in the safe while our CCWs sit on the nightstands at night.

I really miss having a shotgun at hand during the night.

Hers is an 870 20 gauge, mine is a Browning pump 12 gauge.

Sorry to hear of the burglary in your home. That would really piss me off.

Yeah, it does, just remember that it is far more likely that someone is going to come in while you are not there and secure those two beauties accordingly.

#6? So she just wants to make them "jump" a little bit huh? Get her some Fiocchi 00 buck low-recoil, my wife shoots it one handed with the pistol grip on my 870 clone.

Get some Winchester PDX, a one ounce slug topped by three 00 buck, guaranteed to stop just about any thing.

Yeah, but most gals won't shoot those sorts loads. I had a heck of a time convincing the wife to shoot 00 buck, even low recoil stuff until I ran through a magazine as fast as I could and she saw it wasn't gonna jump up and bust her in the nose, lol. It's right up there with her .22's now for her "fun shooting"!

My house would be a bad target for an intruder. My wife no longer works and is home much of the time. We have 2 big Airedale Terriers (rescued) and 2 temporary fostered Airedale Terriers. This weekend we're taking care of 2 additional airedales for a total of 6! They love kids and visitors but raise a tremendous racket. The big male airedale absolutely LOVES my wife and won't put up with any nonsense from anyone - including me! (Sometimes we even have to sneak away from him, if you know what I mean!) :) The house is about 200 meters off the road and most people are afraid to even drive back there. We have some very nice, nosey neighbors and a very nice mailman who would know if anything is amiss. I have 2 barns and there are guns secured in each. I only work 4 days a week now and when we're off we tend to come and go at different hours. And finally... our house is rigged with an old, antiquated, complex alarm system that does nothing except sound an alarm when someone walks into the master bedroom. When we're away from the house for any length of time, we set it so burglars think they've been sighted.

All this helps, but I realize that if somebody REALLY wanted to bust into my house when we're gone, they could do it - with proper planning.

I have a great many precautions against intrusions, or other surprises, the details of such will remain a surprise for whoever comes.

Shotguns, probably the best tool there is for decorating a wall with someone's brains.

Agreed. I can't decide which of JYD's shotguns I like better: the old Winchester trench gun or the new Beretta. They're both very cool. I love simple, utilitarian pump shotguns.
