IMHO "handpick options" are a crock of **** The best you might get is the warehouse boy (or girl) staring at a row of 10 mosins in the crate in front of them and they do a 10 second visual scan and pick one that looks the prettiest.

I tried hand picked 3 times from AIM. All three times, there was no noticeable improvement. They told me one time that since I got a bad deal on one, they would take shipping cost off my next order. No names. Nothing in writting. So that is about what it was worth. No more hand picked for me.

I've had some good luck with the hand pick and some not so good. Don't think that when an order comes in they go oh hey, Tim placed an order and asked for hand pick. Let's go pick one out for him. I think the best out of 5 is BS. Based on the way AIM marks their boxes it appears that when they sort them into piles of Tula, Izhevsk, laminate, hex, etc... they also pre mark some as handpicked. If you buy a Tula Hex handpick from AIM your box will have 3 stickers on it, they will say Tula, HEX and HP. This tells me they are all pre sorted and why AIM has been getting my rifles onto the UPS truck in about 24 hours. This is how they can move 1000 mosins in a week.

On their WEB page they are advertising buying them by the crate. I wonder how much they go for when you buy a crate.

Does anyone have a guess as to if AIM will take some time to sort through all of these rifles and then post them up on their site by category or is it more likely that they'll sell them piece meal? I see that they state they're out of hex receivers, but I wonder if that means they're out of what was in stock to sell or if they've already blown through the hex receivers on this new shipment?

I personally think they go through the crates and pull out the "special" rifles meaning rifles they will put on special and ask for more at a future date. MO's, 3xMO's, DDR's, Ex Dragoons... Sure seems like that is what they do...

I don't know I did that.

This is done by everyone, if they leave something special in a crate it is because they don't care, or they are stupid. Every single crate coming into the US must be unloaded, the rifles individually import marked, serial number recorded in the importers bound book. There are no unsearched crates.

I forgot, once the crate is shipped to the retailer like Aim, or Classic, or the local gunshop the rifles must be removed again and the serial numbers recorded in that dealers bound book, twice searched at a minimum.

This is what made me ask about the sorting. Since all but one rifle on that list is listed as sold out I'm wondering if the new shipment has been sorted yet. Hard to believe all of the new rifles have been spoken for so quickly so my hope is they haven't been listed yet.

I pay for hand pick if I want Tula versus Izhevsk.

Wish that they would offer hand pick by arsenal and year of manufacture, which they do not :b sad:

So you're saying when the rifles come boxed and sealed from Classic (below pic, not mine), it was Classic that boxed them? I had assumed (like I think many do) that since Classic ships them boxed that that's how they receive them.

Also, what you're saying directly contradicts what they claim on their website (below):
Note - These rifles are coming to us pre-boxed so as of now we are not selecting for type of receiver or manufacturer....It is just too time consuming and makes too big of a mess to open all the boxes in search of a particular Mfg or receiver type. Also, the serial #'s are matched to the #'s printed on the outside of the box and we don't want to take a chance of creating
serial # issues by having the rifles out of their original boxes.
So.....uh..... are you basically saying Classic Firearms is full of ****? Inquiring minds want to know, as this is a pretty big shock to me if true. :big shock:

The boxed rifles you see in that picture has no reference to any wholesaler. Note the picture is being taken in somebody's kitchen. In my opinion the reference to being pre boxed from the importer is I believe to be Molot rifles. The boxes shown in the pictures are most likely boxed from a crate by a seller buying rifles that came to them in crates then boxed to sell. Classic, AIM and SOG etc are not importers.

That listing on the site isn't from just the recent ones they got in. They've been selling them seperately for a while and this recent shipment of as far as I've seen is about 2000 rifles. They are going through them, logging them in and putting up seperate lots of the different versions as they come across them. Even when they sell out of this shipment that listing on AIM's site will still be there most likely with all of them showing out of stock. When they get more they'll just turn on the appropriate catagory as they get them.

Lee-Online and M1Guy both bought those 5 packs from Classic. I think Lee's were from Century. At least one was. Classic claims they're coming from the importer that way and they don't look through them so you might get a "special" rifle. The only rifles I've ever gotten that were from Century I bought off the rack at Big5 so I don't know but I've bought about 25 rifles from AIM and Widener's and they were shipped in seperate boxes just like that, 5 to a large box. I bought anywhere from 3 to 8 at a time and the AIM rifles were mixed with TGI, Rguns and PWArms. This was over a year and a half ago. What I'm getting at is Chuck is right. Those rifles were all packed by AIM and Widener's with up to 5 rifles to a large box. They're fairly standard in the firearms business. Here's some of them. Don't mind the cat, he decided to investigate what I was doing.
