What was the question? Oh, now I remember. No this is not an original sniper bolt. Don't need more pictures to tell you it is a welded on bent handle, not a sniper bolt. Why does it make a difference? The only reason they ever used a bent bolt was for scope clearance. By chance have you checked out our forum rules yet?

It's an original bolt, but I doubt it's an original sniper bolt. You can put the bent bolt body on a regular 91/30, since the modification is reversible it isn't bubba. It's not historically correct either, but it might work better for you than the straight bolt.

If you do chose to bubba your next rifle into some half assed sniper replica please remember that this board is not the place to post it. We do not condone the alteration of original 91/30's into fake snipers on this board. The bolt is a fake, the internet abounds with fake sniper parts of every sort. The dam things are a pain in the ass, the straight bolt is much easier as you can smack it open with the palm of your hand Russian style. Put in up on Gunbroker for sale, you will find some mall ninja sniper fondling wannabee who will probably pay you more than you shelled out for it, and forget that fake sniper shit , if you want a PU then save up and get the real deal, it's the only one that gets respect, not the fakes.eriksund wrote:no ... im not going to sniperize this one.. next one yes...

Anything from 'Kbtacticalstar.com" for a Mosin is fake, and that includes the bolt. No one sells just Mosin sniper bolts. Not in bulk. They may have one (used) for sale but no one has multiple for sale. If they do, they are fake bolts. The originals were machine bent (with a movable die on the outside) and a impact mark is left on the inside. If there is no impact mark, then it is likely a fake.
Look at the difference between the handle metal and the original bolt, it will tell you a lot.
They did a good job of trying to keep the marks on the original (including the Tula stat), but the two finishes are different. The radius of the bend is wrong. It would be nice to see the rest of the bolt. Many time they are marked by the person bending and welding the bolt handle. Also the total length of the handle will be different.
This type of bolt is only used on a sniper rifle and not on standard M91/30's, so it would be out of place on it. It would be changing the configuration. If you made it into a fake sniper, it would be out of place on these forums. Like they said, the straight bolt is better on a standard M91/30 anyway and you don't mess up the history (all though it is totally reversible). If you were wanting to use if for hunting and kept the original bolt it would be acceptable. Same as changing the stock and keeping the original or rear sight to a scope mount like Darrel's mount.

Take any bolt head with the extractor in place and your plug gauge to any good machine shop and tell him you want him to broach a hole in the plug gauge to clear the extractor. Warn him the metal of the plug gauge is very hard so he uses the right tool to broach the hole and puff you never have to take the extractor off again to check head space. Should cost maybe $10 or $20 at the most and save buying another gauge. Bill

Zeebill is right. Just have yours modified. Tell them a 1/4" carbide endmill will be just the thing.zeebill wrote:Take any bolt head with the extractor in place and your plug gauge to any good machine shop and tell him you want him to broach a hole in the plug gauge to clear the extractor. As for your head space concern I believe if you use the bolt head off your original bolt with the bend bolt body you will keep the same head space. Changing your bolt out really isn't changing the rifle as long as you keep the original bolt so it can all go back to original. Now if you start hacking on it or sanding etc then you will have people here a little upset we are interested in conservation here as these are historic rifles and we try and keep them original. So if you decide to alter one try not to be offended with the reactions of some of us.

As to the bolt, it's a real reproduction Sniper, bubba'ed to look "cool". I hope you kept the original bolt.

Re: Help!!! new sniper bolt.is it original.... pics
I remember seeing a picture over on Gunboards many years ago with a bunch of real sniper bent bolts next to each other lined up and from different angles and each and every one of them was slightly different. That so impressed me with the fact that there was no real way to tell a real one by the way it was made or the bend or the length of the arm that I have never made any pronouncement of real or fake since then or for that matter listened to what so called experts have had to say either. I sure do get a kick out of the apparent surety of the experts in relation to this though! He he!
By the way any time you change any piece of the bolt there is a potential to change the head space so just remember that simple fact and check them! Bill

Anyone considering purchasing gun parts from KB International (kbtacticalstar.com) should read this. This retailer misrepresents his gun parts as unissued surplus parts. The parts I have received are poor quality commercial chinese parts. They wouldn't fit or function correctly. If that wasn't bad enough, KB International (kbtacticalstar.com) return policy states that NO RETURNS OF GUN PARTS ARE ACCEPTED. Which is interesting since all KB International sells are gun parts. The retailer also has no physical address (PO box only) and can only be contacted through the contact page on the website. I contacted them several times requesting a return authorization and never received a response. I hope this helps anyone else from being taken by this very unethical retailer.dolk wrote:Anything from 'Kbtacticalstar.com" for a Mosin is fake, and that includes the bolt.
