Tula 91/30s Question
Tula 91/30s Question
I found these Tula 91/30 refurbs in a local gun shop. The shop purchased a case and all are mid 1940s Izhevsks except for a 1938 and another Tula. I can't remember the year of the second one but I want to say 1942. The sharpness of the markings on the 38 really caught my eye. I don't have a Tula, which one would you add to the collection or are they both pretty common? Thanks for any comments.

They are about all in the same boat. Pick the one that talks to you.

In this particular case, find the one with the prettiest stock. Something blonde-y. Make sure it talks. I like the grips on the late war stocks better myself.

Re: Tula 91/30s Question
the 1938, no real reason why except that my first Soviet refurb Mosin was a '38 Tula, and it turned out to be an exceptionally good shooter.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Tula 91/30s Question bought the '38
I bought the '38 because it did talk to me, the clarity of the markings and the color of the shellac on the stock. Good thing I did, it had some nasty pitting just in front of the rear sight at the joint between the forend and hand guard. The action has been in the stock for awhile, the tang left a good impression. She shoots high but on dead center. Here's what she looks like...
