There are so many different varieties out there. You at least need a 91/30 and a carbine

I've driven by 3 shows this summer, each time, a previous engagement prevented me from stopping.gurn wrote:Hey Grease, I went to a show this weekend and didn't buy a thing! I've had the shakes every sense.
I said I was an addict. I didn't say I had a problem.

At this time, I'd say you are an anomoly on this forum. Don't worry, this too shall pass.
I'm down to two due to financial considerations, but will get some more, (some back, actually) when finances allow.

Re: Is someting wrong with me???????????
I'm not trying to knock "refurbs (I have a couple) but they really are the "gateway drug" to others. This time last year I hadn't even held a Mosin Nagant. I had seen them in the Dunham's flyer EVERY Sunday in Michigan on sale for around $99. To keep a long story short, I stumbled on a Remington M91 "Finned" at a local pawn shop. I started researching, posting on forums and learned the neat history of contract Mosins...long story short(ish) as I said, never even held a Mosin this time last year...now I have 14...I would tell you to run away NOW but that would be for purely selfish reasons (don't want more competition
) but I am truly amazed when I hold my collection, a feeling I never really got with my M1, etc. You can really sense the history in these things (Lee-Enfields too if you want yet ANOTHER rabbit hole to go down), ESPECIALLY Finnish or other non-refurbished rifles.
Not to brag but here's my collection...It REALLY is addictive:
1915 N.E.W. M91 with original stock and Civil Guard markings
1917 Remington M91 in original stock "Finned"
1923 Ishevsk ex-Dragoon
1928 Tikkakoski M27 (REALLY battle worn)
1931 Ishevsk M91 Dragoon, Finnish owned
1933 Ishevsk M91/30 SA marked un-refurbished
1935 Tula M91/30 Ex-PE Sniper "P60" Marked
1937 "Scrubbed" M91/30 Spanish Civil War
1941 Sako M39
1942 "B" Barrel M91
1943 Tikkakoski M91
1943 Tula M91/30 "sniper marked" but not drilled
1944 Ishevsk M91/30 "DDR" Ex-PU Sniper
1948 Ishevsk M44 DDR
...and there are MANY more I want!
The cool thing is, the MOST I have spent, and this is because I was new to the addiction is right at $300 for my Remington. The BEST deal I found was my M27 for $100 even! Part of the addiction is that though their value is increasing (rapidly) you can still find good deals if you are patient. The real addiction is learning about them and researching the details. They truly capture my interest like really no other item has. I've started studying the Finnish Winter War and Continuation war. The thought of such a small country standing up to the Russian bear is pretty amazing...and beat fought them with their own weapon. They took a truly robust and great battle rifle and made it an AMAZING battle rifle.
Anyway. Be careful...they are addictive!
Best wishes,
Niels

New cars are a terrible investment Judi, a good chunk of the value is gone the moment you drive off the lot, and it gets nothing but worse from then on out. Mosins not only retain their value but grow it with the passing of years.

You do realize women and guns are two different species? No gun complains if you have another of the same caliber or if you buy a newer version and use it more often than the first one you bought.Ran48 wrote:I bought my first 91/30 about three weeks ago cleaned her up and shot it I love the gun, The thing is I have always heard that Mosins are habit forming.
I have no desire for another.
I have purchased two spam cans of fun and am looking for a third at a good price ($100 or less)
What I need to know is;
Is it possible to be Mosin-monogamous?
Is this something I need to see a gunsmith about, or maybe a C&R lic holder about?
Is there known cure?
I have been married to the same woman for near 42 years, so it may just be a character trait.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Don't worry, there are some people around here who have a crate or two of Mosins, or even more, we will not mention names, they know who they are

Re: Is someting wrong with me???????????
Hi, I'm Rob and I'm a Mosin Nagant addict. I've been on the forum a very short time and I'm struggling with this dilemma. I've always considered a Mosin Nagant the cheap rifle that's cheap to shoot and you can beat on it without worry. Perhaps it still is that, but I've become fascinated by it's history and the number of variations there are. I had no idea. Now I have headaches from reading about them so much. I picked up my first Mosin 3 1/2 weeks ago. It's an Izhevsk 1944, M38. Last Tuesday, I bought three more. A 1955 T53, nice and beat up with some mud, in a gouge, on the butt stock.( I'm calling it Chinese mud
) And two, 1938 Tula M91/30 rifles. One hard wood and the other laminate. Now I'm looking at a Romanian M44 and a Finnish M39. Please make it stop. By the way, the T53 is my favorite. I like things that look beat up, kind of like me.
Re: Is someting wrong with me???????????
Welp, all that and just wait till you have hands on the 39 then that Chinese will sit in the corner
Welcome, you are way behind
