The gent who ripped off the design from Okie, a board advertizer.

That ebay seller ripped off the idea from OKIE. If I were you I would double check the correctness of the gauges before I shot anything.Casey wrote:I ordered a set of the G-NG-F head space gauges from Firewerks this past Saturday. They arrived this afternoon. Great service.

Anyone here ever had a Mosin fail the Field gauge?
Re: 7.62 X 54R Coin Go - No Go - Field Gauges
One. Swapped bolt head around till I got two that passed the No-Go.

You know much as I like and if I ever bought another set of coin type guages it would be from OKIE I bought a set of coin type guages almost 30 years ago from a machine shop who made them locally in Jersey so the idea has been around for years before our friend started making them. The next thing I will say that will probably not endear myself to you is I far prefer the non-coin type guages I got about 15 years ago from Brownells as they remove at the flip of the bolt and thus far I have not lost them. They are bigger and they just seem far easier to keep track of. I have long ago lost the last set of coin type guages I bought in the trash heap I call a shop. They were from another source too, a German sounding name associated with engineering in someway. I think I had 3 sets of coin type guages I have lost over the years now if I am remembering right. To each his own I guess but if I recommend getting guages to anyone I do think of OKIE first! Bill

Yes, both were fixed with bolt head swaps.BenedictGomez wrote:Anyone here ever had a Mosin fail the Field gauge?

I've used OKIE for my Mosins and Steyrs and they work great. Okie is very easy to do business with, customer oriented, friendly with prompt delivery and easy to understand directions.

He is a great guy, easy to do business with, and very suportive of the forum, and I never meant to say he wasn't and if it came out that way I apologize. His products are well made and easy to use I just wanted to project some things in their proper light. As I said if I ever went back to coin type guages I would look him up first! Just prefer the ones I have over coin type ones because I lose the dang things all the time! I also like the way they work, I work the bolt and they are gone back into the work tray. Bill

Yep unfortunately as they've stated you bought gauges from a thief that stole the design from our sponsor. He's not just a sponsor here but an important part of this forum and he's a good guy. http://www.russian-mosin-nagant-forum.c ... 717#p77717Casey wrote:I ordered a set of the G-NG-F head space gauges from Firewerks this past Saturday. Using the great tools from Okie, I too found one that failed head-spacing. Swapping the bolt head from another of mine fixed it just fine and I ordered a more permanent replacement from another one of the generous sponsors listed at the top of the page!

I keep all of them in the little ziplock bags they came in, in the larger ziplock bag, and put them in a larger ziplock bag with the printed out instructions and they stay in the bottom of my range toolbox.
I did, however, throw away the packing peanut, hope that didn't void my warranty..

I imagine if I live to be 100, I may never find a Mosin that fails the Field gauge, but I also decided it's probably not worth that risk. Ordered a coin gauge this weekend.

I got three packing peanuts
The guy who "stole" the design didn't do anything wrong unless Okie has a patent. Bottom line and most important thing is that the Okie gauges are more accurate. I've used both. I'm not going to say what the problem is with the non Okie stuff but trust me, Okie's are much more accurate.

Being a relative newbie to Mil/Surplus firearms I read all the post I could on this site before purchasing my rifles. I never fired a Mosin or my M95 without checking the headspace first with a OKIE field gauge. Great product and service.....

The hell they do, all six of the outright fails I had were refurbs straight from the dealers, rifles still with the oil, and crate dust on them.notabiker wrote:do you feel lucky punkjust kidding. i have never had a problem with head space in a referb mosin. not a single problem. they check it at the factory and referb.

Notabiker you are being foolish and could get yourself and others hurt by even thinking they check the headspace during refurb. They just did hodge podge assembly and replacement of broken parts. Don't kid yourself into being hurt! We would miss you! Bill
