Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

I love the Bow and the Hunt! I have Bowhunted since 1988 and switched from Compound to Traditional Bows in 1995. I love the simplicity of the onestring Bow and love the woods and the Rocky Mountains!

I like simple,,,,,,,,One reason for the draw to the Mosin design,,very simple and rugged in all regards. A stock Mosin rifle with iron sights in it's original unaltered state is a great crossover to a simple Bow. I think the Mosin will be my primary Hunting rifle in the future,,,yes I could have the fancy scoped commercial offerings in current manu rifles but the Mosin seems to fit my preference.

I also love the closeness required to Bowhunt. You have to be within 20 or so yards of a WT even though I may be able to poke the vitals at further range, I impose this distance for lethality and ethics. Yes,,,not a Pompous attitude,,just a real desire for a clean passing of the Animal with a short trail to follow.

If anyone would like to get into the this great Sport of Bowhunting,,especially those in the school of thought "The kill is not important, it is the Hunt and how it is done",,Please feel free to expect any help I can give you on the subject of Bowhunting and tuning of the Bow and arrow in the future here.

I do it legal,,I do it with simplicity and great regard for the Animal. Hunting IS Conservation when practiced ethically!

Good luck! Archery deer starts here in WI on Sep. 15, I'm taking Red out when he can get away from football practice.
