1935 Izhevsk XO-47 M91-30

Post by Greasemonkey »

This is a 1935 Izhevsk XO-47 stamped M91-30. It's another uncommon stamping found on Mosin's, these are slightly more uncommon than the MO series. There have also been XO-46, XO-47 and XO-48 stampings found and documented. Like most Russian stampings these remain unknown as to their meaning. Another odd stamping is the two Circle "E" 300 stampings on the bottom of the barrel. I've looked everywhere for an explanation, but like the "XO" stamp, it's unknown also.

The XO series has been speculated to be everything from Police issue(Kharkov District) , the NKVD, or even some unknown refurb. It looks like when it went through the refurb process, they may have tried to line out the XO-47 stamping.

The stock finger grooves are filled with small stampings, and other numerous stampings can be found through out, including on the metal. Even though this is a refurb, the bore is spotless and bright, no counter bore, new looking crown and looks brand new considering the age. The other strange thing, the trigger on this ranks up there with the Finnish rifles, like it was possibly arsenal tuned or something, but one can only guess. All parts are matching, even the bayonet I received with it has the last 3 digits of the serial stamped on it.
