If I was nearby I would run the loader over and give you a hand, that digging by hand shit gets old fast, but you young and will spring back fast. Too bad you don't have any sand bags you could fill with the dirt and leave it stacked around your target stand, or maybe just build a bunker .

Sounds like my pistol shooter friends who own no rifles, I gave one of them a Chinese SKS when he bought his new home, now he is born again hard and wants my favorite 91/59, so it can turn into a problem

If he gets a Springfield pistol then you are gonna want one too. I have 2, A 4" XD40, & a 3" subcompact XD9. They are fine shooting pistols.
Hey man I am real proud of you for your progress. It looks ready good. Your hard work is paying off big time.

Why not take him to the next gun show and get him a nice used revolver to start off with, something cheap to shoot like a .38 special, or .22, and a nice Mosin 91/30. :vcool: :vcool: :vcool:

What??? If it is your property I would make sure that your half of the field is clearly marked & if they trespass again report it.

After watching the video & seeing the whole layout, I would be building a very serious berm there stressing more berm to the right. Time to rent some heavy equipment.

By the looks of things your pushing it a bit with that much housing around you & eventually someone WILL complain. If the CLEO came to investigate your range they would at the very least shut it down. Angle to the left if it's open that way & dig deeper with at least a 6ft high berm. Railroad ties would be a great start, then stack dirt in front of it with banking to the sides.

You have made an excellent start though. 8-)

This is just my opinion but you're in to close quarters to be shooting there. You will have problems with neighbors other then the one guy who is coming over. Even if you were just using a .22 caliber. To be shooting 7.62x54R is unsafe. From what I've seen no matter where you point the muzzle there's houses. Remember these can hit targets fairly accurate up to 1,000 yards. That's over half a mile. The M91/30 has a rear sight that goes to 20 which correct me if I'm wrong is 2,000 yards. That's 6,000 feet, over a mile. These rifles can shoot that far. Even a ricochet can cover huge distanaces and still have enough velocity to kill someone or at a minimum hurt someone seriously. I'd have to say even if you built a professional style backstop the noise alone is going to bring the neighbors down on you.

Yeah I feel it too. I hate to be a downer here. The neighbors may be "cool" with it for whatever reason when they talk to you but the first time a ricohet goes sideways into that house next to the backstop this is all over. My neighbor to the south has a womoan living with him to look after him, he's 86 and she was in the back yard one day shooting at something in the trees above her aiming west. I was watching her so I know where she was aiming. The next thing I know I here a tumbling ricochet go over my house. She was aiming at a 90 degree angle from me, was about 800 yards away and was shooting a .22 Caliber rifle. I wish you luck and hate to pee on the parade but I think this may not end well.
