Meet CHRISTINE!

Post by TopperT »

This is a 1934 Izhevsk that was captured and taken by the Finn's into their possession. I picked it up a year ago from a collector and have had it in my crate for some time.

It has the 'SA' stamp and is clearly a rifle that has 'seen some wear' over its lifetime. The rifle however is very odd. It actually "feels" cold in your hand and has an 'evil' feel to it  . Its not like any other rifle I have owned in that it seems to almost alien and not friendly. To boot the last three digits of the bolt serial number are 666. I have nicknamed this one "CHRISTINE". It shoots well but doesn't get much range time as I really feel sort of like it should be kept away from live firing.......its that strange.

I know full well not to be afraid of the boogy man................... but this one????.........well let us just say its better left in the collection :shifty: .

Christine is a white over red 1958 Plymouth Fury two door hardtop from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania owned by a man named Ronald D. LeBay. he may get pissed if he finds out you took the name for that rifle, he's been dead for awhile, but that hasn't stopped him yet.

Nice rifle :) after Rollie gets done with you can I have it?

Maybe this one had a larger number of deaths associated with it, but all of them have blood on them. Throw it in the fire and see if it screams!

I've always wondered, hence the question. Out of any given collection of milsurps of at least 10 to 100 rifles, what % of these have taken life or the one carrying it having his life taken?
I'm thinking (or at least hoping) a pretty low %, anyone have any thoughts on this.

There are a few rifles in my collection that I do know have taken life and had their soldiers life taken. These are all Vet bringbacks. I do look at them differently and they are not rifles I would consider for casual plinking.

Well if you replace "taken a life" with "Fired in anger" I believe the percentage would go through the roof, especially pre 1943 M91/30's and the early 1944 M44's. The M38's I have mixed feelings on. How many were picked up to replace a M91/30 so Ivan didn't have to lug all that extra weight around (Like our M-1 Carbines) but then the realization that the extra foot of pointy steel to keep "Fritz" a bit further back was a nice thing to have. (Interestingly enough early M-1 Carbines were not capable of mounting a bayonet, but by war's end they were )
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!
