Glad to hear they are packing things better. It used to a wrap or so of newspaper and in the box they went, maybe they have had enough hassles with UPS and lost a few so they have learned the lesson the hard way. The blued parts are generally replacement parts and are common in rifles that were redone after the war and stored. The knothole stocks like you have a few of are disliked by some people but I kind of like them. I traded WVChuck a couple of years ago for an M39 that has about 20 some odd of those and I like it alot. I have never seen a bad bore on an M39 and I have only seen one that was counterbored. It shot great by the way. I have seen a couple that were frosted but still shot well. If you are ever going to get a great shooting Finnish Mosin it will likely be and M39 or a 28/30. Most everything I have ever had and shot and enjoyed was one of the above. Once in awhile you will get a great shooting Refurb but generally they are a crapshoot in what you get. Bill ;mywink;

The 91/59's are more of a sure bet if you need a good shooter Soviet refurb. My Finn built M1891'as are also great shooters, all with excellent to new bores including the oldest, the M24. Even the most issued looking M91, the 1940 VTK has a mirror bore.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Great M39! I really noticed the wood on that one. I really like the SAKO style font and stock stamping. My first Finn was a 1941 SAKO M39. I want more but I am picky. Thanks to the variety Pat Burns has. I've been holding out for a nice SK.Y. So far she hasn't posted any since I bought my SAKO. Enjoy your new M39! Sweeeeet! :vcool: :vcool: :vcool: :vcool:

But have to show my ignorance, but, WHO IS PAT BURNS ?

Thanks Jim
She owns guns and ammo.com or something like that. They bought up most of the M39s originally I hear. She has been selling them off slowly over the years. I hope I got all that right.

These have become my favorites, that is a sweet one. :Drool1:

Thanks for the info on the blueing, zeebill. The extractor looked out of place to me. The knot holes didn't bother me either. Now if there were 20 of them.....

I bought my first M39 from Pat Burns last summer. It is a 1941 VKT, and I only had one occasion to shoot it, but was happy with it.

Since then, I bought a Finnish M91/24 Lotta with a Bohler-Stahler stepped barrel off the internet, with matching bolt and barrel. The receiver is an Izhevsk dated 1914. The bore is heavily frosted and counterbored. As Doug Bowser states in his book, the Lotta rifles are hard to find in very good condition.

In addition, I bought a Finnish M91 with a 1940 Tikka barrel. The receiver is hex, with no date or factory markings, is marked "OEWG" and "AZF" showing that it was a capture by the Austro-Hungarians in WWI, and possibly converted to their 8mm cartridge. After the break up of the Empire, the rifle ended up being sold to the Finns by Hungary in 1936 or 1940, with 4,600 initially, and another 300 in the latter year. As with many of the 1940 vintage rifles in Finland, the finish was not as good as other times due to the war emergency. The bore is heavily frosted, but the bolt matches the barrel. I had to rescue the rifle, because someone thought that it would look cool with an M91/30 globe sight and bayonet. I was able to find a NOS WWII flat top, stepped Finnish M91 front sight from a source in Finland, to bring it more in line with the way it should look.

One of the things that really interests me about the Finnish weapons, aside from me being Finnish, is the trail of evidence one can find on the weapons that traces its steps through history. I think that one would be hard-pressed to find another country that has as much.

Can't wait to go shoot them.

Sounds like Pat Burns has done some "upgrading" to their packaging after my disaster with the SKY stock. Previously there was NO bubble wrap in any rifle I got from Burns. Nice to see they are taking extra precautions now. I also notice that SKY rifles are conspicuously absent from the past two Burns listings. Anyway, nice looking rifle and glad it arrived safe and sound.

I received this 1968 No Make M39 from Pat Burns today. Contrary to what most people have said about Pat Burns M39's, it was not as described. Along with the crack pictured on the left side of the stock there is also a 4+ inch hairline crack on the handguard. Both of which were not in the description. I plan on using this rifle as a shooter and I'm concerned with the integrity of the stock?

Small cracks are common in M39 stocks, that one suffered from a knot, a natural weak point. 1968 is not a common year, all of these 1967-70 rifles were limited production and made for one purpose only, rifle marksmanship training and competition. Shoot it, if it hasn't cracked worse by now it likely will be fine, if it shoots as well as my 1968 you will love that rifle.

SAAAAAAWEEEEET :Drool1:

Good one Tom. I have always received outstanding rifles from her. And it is common to spend quite a bit of time unwrapping the package.

If any of you have been out to the sight lately, the prices are beginning to creep up. Seems the prices are trending up. She sold a straight handled SAKO for $1300 shortly after it appeared. On the other side of it, she is putting some very interesting rifles up. I know.... I don't usually go two days without logging on there  I have, however, been able to discipline myself not to by EVERY time I am out there...

Surprised to see this thread back on the first page. Sorry for your experience, ckcadavona. I guess I was fortunate in that I didn't have any issues.

I actually took this rifle out a week ago and the groups were spectacular. I was teasing the range officer that I was going to take my target home and frame it.
