34' Izhevsk Molot 91/30 "DDR"

Post by husker51 »

Here is one I picked up about a month ago. My first "DDR". Happened to find it at Cabela's in Sidney, NE. I picked it over a 36' Izhevsk "Red Letter". Stock on the 36' was pock marked a little too much to suit me. Looked like more recent damage. Anyway, the 34' has a two inch counter bore. I didn't have one with such a deep counter bore.

The triangle "1" looks more prominate in the photo than to my own eyes. :)

Nice pre-war stock.

Here are the MOLOT markings.

Tang date and arsenal marking as you would expect.

No Molot markings on the barrel like on the M44s.

Just a little more gun porn to support the cause! :D

OK, I haven't followed refurbs for a while nor have I been paying attention to the current round of MOLOT imports. So, here is question that I am in the dark about: Why are these export stamped by MOLOT and then import stamped by PW Arms?
Since MOLOT stamped these in English, they were obviously made to be sent to the US. It would seem that legaly, they could get by with either. I don't see any importer caring about their stamp being on the product, after it is sold?

I am thinking strictly government regulation. I think the Russians control what Molot is doing and I belive that the U.S. is responsible for P.W. Arms marking them.

That is too bad. Beautiful rifle, but I can't get past the PW billboards and Molot stamps. I can't stand any PW markings. They have also ruined thousands of Nagant revolvers.

Legally, the serial number of the gun cannot have Russian characters. Importers put the new, legal serial# on after import along with their billboard.

Why an exporter mark and an import mark?

Good question. I also would think the molot markings are to get around the Russian ban so they are marked as hunting models by molot and then have an import mark also. Nice rifle. :vcool: :vcool: :vcool:

Yeah, why both? Good question. I just always thought of the Molot marks(laser etched?) As a label, or brand name for the sake of advertising. I don't think they look bad, just perhaps a little too modern for the rifle's age, kind of like electro-penciling, or dot matrix stamps. We just have to live with it, or quit buying online sight-unseen. Hey you got yourself a very nice 34 DDR for sure.

Enjoy it for what it is... Looks very nice except for the billboard & Molot stamp.

Love them DDR's. :attn: The Molot mark might be able to be blued over if so inclined.

Thank you for all of the nice compliments gentleman! I agree that the Molot markings are not preferable but they are coming from Russia and if you want what comes from Russia now-a-days, you take what you can get. This Molot stamping has kept me from buying other rifles but I am softening up a little. :bwink:
