Remington Nylon 66

Post by buddhaboy »

I thought I would share my Nylon 66. This is the first NEW rifle I ever bought back in 1974. Over the years it has had countless different scopes and sights on it. This Tru-glo red dot is the latest. All parts are original and has been completely disassembled for cleaning only once recently. What a "PITA" only regular cleaning for the next 39 years. It is a great shooting gun for plinking or squirrel hunting. I hope you enjoy the pictures these older guns always put a smile on my face.

Commercial sporters are rarely easy to strip down, military rifle have to be.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

These little Remingtons have gone from about 60 bucks back when you bought yours to insane prices nowadays. They are great little shooters, totally reliable, and fun as heck. Somewhere along the way they became sought after collectibles. I have the Mohawk brown one too. I have a friend with a dark green one. My brother has a black and chrome one. He also has a sweet little Nylon bolt action Nylon model 11. He even has the removable magazine model 77.

You know you is getting old when all the things you used in your younger years end up being put on display in glass cases, and fought over by collectors :)

You are right on the money! I don't have the reciept any more but I do remember paying like $64.00. We all knew someone who had one way back when, they seemed to be everywhere. Todays prices are only insane if you remember the original cost but I suppose that is the same with everything. That desire to own something from our youth drives the collectibility and prices up. Kind of like muscle cars, we didn't give a hoot that they were not even good cars they wouldn't handle, brake, or ride nice.
But when you would stand on the gas you really didn't care. So now we all want one again.

You're right, my kids are so tired of hearing me say " hell I remember that"

My boys hear it a lot from me. I am always saying I had one of them when I was a kid, or so and so had one of those. Don't we all wish we had some of them now. That's why we buy these old cars and guns we are
re visiting our Youth, and that is why we see all the old Mussel Cars driven by us old Folks.     My grand sons look at some of my guns and say God Pa Pa do those thing even shoot and I say hold her tight and pull the trigger and you will find out. :chuckles: :chuckles:

You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.

I had a friend back in 73 that had one. For some reason what sticks in my mind is it made a weird sound (like you would expect from a Nylon rifle). I don't remember much else except he sure would go through the ammo!

Am I crazy (don't answer that) or do they make a strange sound?
