Oh yea, they pulled rock out of the ground for near a century here, leaves big holes behind, friend of mine owns another like it about 20 miles from here, not as deep. Sorry pacanis, can't say that on an open forum, we got enough publicity problems here already

Everyone here has ponds so that cuts down on the need to come here. Don't get me wrong I have quite a few other neighbors that come to fish but they are not lowlife, druggies that would sue me. Oh and there's a bunch of fish in that pond now. Since I restored the pond and have kept them off my buddy's kid pulled a 5lb. largemouth out of their last summer. The pond is now twice the size it was when I got here and that helped too. I don't mean to hijack this thread but I can definitely identify with Avenger in what he's doing. Especially now that this is going in the direction he's taking but getting the shovel out and doing some digging to make things better. I'll post some pictures of the pond before and after and the fish I talked about. It is a beatiful pond...now after hard work. I know he has his work cut out for him and if I was there I'd lend a hand for sure. All done with a shovel, chainsaw and hand tools.

This is the offending breach during repair.

and after repair.

Looking down at the pond through the brush before it was cleared. Yes there's a pond there. It's to the right.

After it was cleared.

Same area but during spillway relief to maintain drainage.

The whole pond before it filled

And after it filled. The summer picture is partially filled and the winter picture is completely filled and running over the spillway.

End result. Priceless!!

I was wondering the same thing. Louisiana gets snow? It looked like my area of PA.

Yep we get snow here. I've been here for over 4 years now and it's snowed here almost every year. They don't last long, maybe a day or so. It gets cold here. We get down to about 10 or 12 degrees here. Have to watch for freezing pipes inside the house and outside. I've had to fix more than one after a freeze. Remember I'm in the most northern part of Louisiana almost to Arkansas.

It's 23 this morning here, snow is supposed to come sometime in the next day or so, so far this year we have been doing OK since the freak foot deep snow fall the day before Halloween.

Yeah, that was pretty funny :? sorry...
We usually are the ones getting hit Halloween and have barely gotten a touch of snow this year. Makes up for last year when I had to clear snow every day but three. It's only 14 now though.
Weldon, I guess I didn't realize Louisiana went up that far. It''s that whole association thing with the Bayou and all

Last winter was the worst in at least 50 years for us, five feet of accumulated snow pack by the end of February. Near constant snow and ice storms starting the day after Christmas, I just about lived in the plow and the loader. Not fun at all.

About 5-6 years ago I remember getting hit with a foot of snow the end of April, it may have even been early May. This was after several weeks of seeing grass
This is how we clear snow up by Lake Erie.

Oh, and to keep this OT, what I used to build my range backstop.

I think it's looking great, avenger! Ahh, to be young and full of energy again...
Remember, the lower you go and work back towards your shooting station, the more you will be shooting into the earth and just using your piled dirt for flyers. If I had an incline to work with like you do, I would picture a nice 6-10 ft flat area in front of the target.
Super job. Too bad you don't live closer.

Nice job avenger! I too would grab a shovel if I was closer. I am impressed you're doing this all by hand and making great headway!
