You didn't hear??? Mystery Solved. Turns out if a Soviet infantry Soldier achieved 25 or more kills he received a gift rifle with the /25\ stamp & red lettering.JayPoc wrote:Still unknown?
Sorry.... I've had a rough day at work & the Sarcasm is flowing.
Yes, still unknown. Many theories of course & some even make a bit of sense but without concrete proof theories are all they will ever be.

A theory floats it is a refurb armory or such. Usually appears on the red or orange numbered mosins.

Is the /25\ mark found only on the 91/30's, reason I'm asking is I've been eyeballing a M44 with the /25\ mark. I don't really need a another carbine but if it is uncommon to find this mark on the M44's I might go for it.

Triangle 25 appears on PU scopes from time to time. I wouldn't buy a rifle specifically because it has that mark.

Yea I hear and understand that.Hlavinka wrote: I wouldn't buy a rifle specifically because it has that mark.
....but my question was, is the /25\ mark found mostly on the 91/30's compared to the M44's. I don't recall seeing it on a M44.

As most things Soviet Mosin, yes, it's still unknown.JayPoc wrote:Still unknown?
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Thanks Hlavinka, this M44 also had couple more odd markings, such as a large 5 stamped left of the s/n and a small czech looking star left of the /25\. I've seen those on the Czech 91/38's, but not on a M44. Oh well more unknow mosin marks.
