If it fires black powder, it is discussed here.

My recent bp arms- Pietta 1858 Remington & TC Hawken

Post by bunkysdad »

I just recently acquired this Hawken 50 caliber percussion rifle made by Thompson Center. I have not shot it yet, but it looks like it's hardly been used. It already had the old Marlin long eye relief scope and see-thru sights. I want to give a special thank you to SgtRob for our recent trade. He traded a Remington replica made by Pietta of Italy and it is in gorgeous condition for it's 40 years. I got the revolver with a perfect fitting nice leather holster, and was able to supply him with some wanted 54r ammo and stripper clips. I cannot say enough good things about SgtRob. The state of Idaho is fortunate to have such a great man in law enforcement.

It is really nice when two members get what they want. Funny thing, I did a trade deal with Sgt. Rob about 4 years or so ago. I traded him some WWII winter gloves for 200 rounds of Czech silver tip. I hope he still has the gloves, I still have most of the silver tip.

Nice stuff! I can't wait to get my tc hawken out. The scope does look kinda funny haha. Good looking firearms!
Let me make a short, open, blanket comment. There are no good guns. There are no bad guns. Any gun in the hands of a bad man is a bad thing. Any gun in the hands of a descent person is no threat to anyone--- except bad people. -- Charleton Heston

Guns are not good, they are not evil. Save those descriptions for the people holding the firearm. -- Unknown

Can you imagine what it would look like if it was a flintlock?
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

After I take it out and shoot it a bit I will be snatching it off of the rifle. I always wanted a tang mount diopter sight or Verneer sight I think it's called. I might look into one instead of the scope. I am just happy they didn't remove the rear sight. Yes, it is about as out of place as a scope on a Mosin. :P

There were scopes around by the mid 19th century, however they were heavy, long tube, brass affairs.

Thanks Mike, yep it's a 44. I sure like the feel of these. I could see myself having a few more "Remingtons".

If you like the Remington then you would also like the Rogers&Spencer, another full frame big .44, a very few were even issued during the war.

The CVA Hawken was my first BP long weapon back in the 70's, they are a lot of fun, and easy to deal with.

It's considered to be the most accurate revolver of it's era, and is prized today by shooters, both originals and repops.
