To the bubbas lurking on this site....
I know that there has to be bubbas lurking on the preservation forums, hopefully some will read this and not make a stupid mistake. You may read and scoff about our posts against refinishing and all that jazz. Fine. But even if you totally disagree with the preservation philosophy, at least take the time to research what you have. You may be surprised. Someone out there may be happy to buy your 'cheap old rifle' at a nice profit to you. Do I have your attention? I hope so!
A friend recently sent me a link to a closed auction where.the seller had bought some refurb 91/30s and completely broke them down into component parts to sell off at a profit. The auction was for his completely stripped barrelled receivers which brought under $100 as a group. I guess he didn't know the significance of the 41 Tula in the bunch.
Not sure what I mean by that? Use some google-fu and do a quick search. While you're at it do the same with the rifle that you're about to 'improve'. Maybe you will.be surprised at what you find.

On Facebook? Check out the non-sporter preservationist group at: OOOPS. Deleted by Facebook because it's evil to even discuss collectible firearms on social media these days.

That dumb ass f***ed himself out of $400 profit on the rare '41 Tula!

Nice sentiments and thoughts but I am afraid after all these years I think most Bubba's are unreachable. They either don't read, don't care, or don't have internet or even know what that means. Sad statement that reflects a great amount of our current population.

Very correct, 90% of the population( and I am being kind with that 90%) at any given time isn't worth shit scraped off a boot.

I'll admit that when I first entertained getting a Mosin that I had visions of making it all nice and purdy and that my vision of purdy was to refurbish it. Once I started shopping around for one I quickly lost all notions of that nonsense as to actually hold one is to hold a piece of history. It took me seeing one in person to realize these rifles all have a story to tell and who are we to erase that history?

You guys should not see what's going on, on the FaceBook forums.. It's a daily onslaught of bubbas and one or two of us trying to be the voice of reason..
What gets me is when you say look at history, our point is already made.. Looks at M1's, looks at Enfields, heck look at AK's..
They rather stick there heads in the sand and ignore the facts ..

+1 For every 100 members of the MN pages on FB 97 are hard core Bubba's, 1 moderate, and 2 preservationists. I've got a dent in my wall from banging my head each time I try to convince some idiot not to refinish the stock on his newly acquired beautiful all original M39 he somehow stumbled into for $150. It's been so bad lately that I have wanted to bail on the group but another side of me thinks if I can convert just one Bubba from the Dark Side and/or impress upon a first time MN owner the history involved in these amazing rifles it will all be worth it. The same clown who stumbled into the M39 asked what helmets the Finns used during the war. I sent him to the Finn Junkyard sight and he proudly announces he's going to buy a Hungarian WWII helmet to use to display with his M39. Then another member chimes in and tells him to shoot the helmet! The two Bubba's congratulated one another on a such a brilliant idea when a helmet collector jumps in and informs them that that isn't such a great idea. They're response, the helmet is cheap. I'm so sick of hearing the standard Bubba marketing line of "they made millions of these...go ahead and sporterize it!" or "the shellac has flaked off in one spot so I'm going to refinish the stock" which is always followed with a million suggestions on how to go about desecrating the stock with everything from oven cleaner to brake cleaner. I swear some of these geniuses have inhaled far too much oven cleaner over the years.Gsragtop wrote:You guys should not see what's going on, on the FaceBook forums.. I was the same way when I first started looking into these rifles. I just thought of them as a cheap rifle. I even had ideas of trying to make one into a sniper rifle. Thankfully I found this forum and read about the history of these rifles and all that they have been through. Now i appreciate them the way they should be.TheMaineEvent wrote:I'll admit that when I first entertained getting a Mosin that I had visions of making it all nice and purdy and that my vision of purdy was to refurbish it. Re: To the bubbas lurking on this site....
I have been buying "bubba kits" from a guy who bought a lot of these back when they were really cheap with the intentions of selling parts. I tried to get him to "rematch" parts, but he'd already had all the bolts scrubbed of serial numbers so no go on that. The best he can do is get all the parts from the same arsenal, which I have found is more than the refurbs are in most cases. While my rifles have no history and no real collectors value, they do have immaculate bores and finish and are excellent shooters, and I count each one of them as one that Bubba will never cut the barrel on, mount a scope on or slap into an ATI stock!

Cut off one inch from his most prized body part for each inch of missing barrel on a milsurp. Of course that only works for the first one and a quarter inch of missing barrel, then we have to start on fingers and toes.

Re: To the bubbas lurking on this site....
I have tried, mostly unsuccessfully, to wake up a few bubbas on other forums I frequent. Most bubbas need a good thrashing behind the woodshed but realistically I doubt even that would wake them up. Some people care about no one but themselves or are just abjectly greedy. Proof that some people need to be prohibited from swimming in the gene pool.

If corporations are people, when will we see one executed?

Serves the dumb@$$ right for destroying a perfectly good rifle. I avoid that Facebook group, its too depressing to think so many people are out there with total disregard for history.racerguy00 wrote:I know that there has to be bubbas lurking on the preservation forums, hopefully some will read this and not make a stupid mistake.
