I'm confused about Molots. Are they good or not good to get? Are they "making" refurbs or repros or both?
And... What do the markings look like? Is it a "KO"?
I've been searching for some definitive info on the 'net and I'm just
As confused as when I started. And I'm pretty good at finding info on the Internet...
If you figure it out you let me know, because I don't know either, nobody does Just another type of Mosin import, in time we will figure it all out, you may have a white beard down to your shoes by then, but it will come out.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Darn spellcheck! My subject says Molotov!!!!!
JYD can you fix it with your mystic forum powers?
I hate when that happens.... Well, it will get a lot of views maybe.
Molotov was far from good, I had wondered as I was opening the topic what you could possibly have found good about the man

My "OPINION" about "MOLOTS" ( I own a m44 Molot ) is basicly how serious, or purist of a collector you are, it the same rifle, just a matter of who dd the the refurb., a goverment arsenal, or a private soviet spin off .My M44 is a beautiful rifle, and was bought from Classic when the Molot controversy just started, i can say i would rather it not be a Molot, but at the same time i'm very happy with it !!!

Soon enough the Molot imports will be all that is available to you as the Ukraine hoard seems to be slowing up .

From what I gather, originally it was thought that they were taking parts horded with the rifles (as spares) and, and making complete rifles.. This is unconfirmed but widely thought as correct. This applied to the m38's and m44's.. However the 91/30's showing up now are something different.. They seem more Russian referb and not modern referb.. So as others have said, no one knows what the real deal is..
As a side note Molot is a working factory today, and they make some fine weapons such as the VEPR.
It is possible that they are using old stock leftover parts to build some rifles, we don't know. Every type of Molot offering , M44, M38, the PU, and now the 91.30 has it's own characteristics. The M44's look to have refinished wood, so do most of the M38's but these 91/30's look more untouched. Each now offering gives us more clues.

They are a business out to make money. The consideration for exporting the Mosin Nagant by Molot to the U.S. is they must not be considered a military surplus rifle & are somehow reconfigured into a modern hunting rifle. A loophole in the system & laughable at best. I find it really odd that these current 91/30 imports look to be nothing more than Soviet Refurb rifles with Molot stampings. From what I'm hearing & seeing there is no way these were gone through & re-done. I also find it hard to believe these are making it through inspection checks at the border & passing through without a second thought.
The plot thickens....

Thanks to poor storage some of them look worse than they typical lower end Soviet refurb.

I'm off work tomorrow & all this talk of Cabela's, Gander & Dunhams has me thinking it's time to go window shopping to see what's afoot. Fleet Farm is listing 91/30's for $119 so if I find something nice (& not Molot) I might have to price match & buy it.

I posted my thoughts about the 91/30's at Cabella's made by MOLOT and after seeing them in person and looking over them with a 30+ year licensed buddy we were not impressed at all. Too many things mismatched together in time period different forms. Stocks all beat to hell and back! Lots of crude attempts at scrubbing to like clean up the rough wartime machine work and things that would only be done by an uneducated worker. Funny I kind of don't like that about any refurb but I can except it when done by a military uneducated worker versus a commercial worker merely making thinmgs to sell to the public.
I kind of take exception to the purist labels many who "collect" refurbs place on those of us who worry about history of weapons and their legitimacy. I have no problem with anybody buying a refurb to shoot but they had better remember it is indeed a parts rifle assembled by the military arsenal years ago and now what we have are not that and are assembled for sale to the public. Now it may shoot just fine and look great but don't even try and hand me this look at the history and condition of it! It is a modern reproduction using old parts and reconditioning to modern standards with little to no storage grease indicating long time storage and being affected by storage for anytime because of that. That alone should tell you these rifles were made to move fast on a commercial market. It is very similar to modern surplus stores in that nothing is older and really surplus and for the most part is cheap reproductions from China or else where. These may indeed be made with original parts but they are assembled haphazardly with no thought about whether they really should go together in a time period or not. So no history and no collector value should or will be attached to them in the future. They will have value as a rifle for just the fact of what they are and yes that will go up in price just because of what it is and the current atmosphere of our society. MOLOT USA has not helped in anyway my opinions of these rifles making all kinds of Hunting rifles and frankly Bubbaing Milsurps either. Call it as you may I have plenty of real rifles and I am for sure not in the begining of my collecting so I will feel just fine about what I have. You guys just starting out are not really finding good buys of things that are really worth collecting and I surely feel sorry for you as it is a shame you have to be subjected to the current climate.. Go up to the Molot sub forum above this and there are plenty of pictures. I am noticing a set pattern on for or against the Molots in that most of the new comers are happy about them and us old guys just are sort of shaking our heads. Well time will tell I guess. Bill
I have an M44 also from classic and the thing looks almost new untouched. all numbers
matching prolly forced from parts. Its a nice little shooter that is for sure.
Came in a nice like new box with styrofoam and VERY little grease on her. Same Molot markings as the
one above.
