If it fires black powder, it is discussed here.

Yep next time we take a load of scrap I will have to ask. If they don't I think there are a couple smaller ones that might be more likely to sell what they have.

Lead pipe, roof flashing, any sort of plumbing lead for that matter will be the soft lead you need. Wheel weights are 90/10 alloy, and better suited for modern .38 specials, but you can use it in a pinch as you are shooting patched ball. The patch grips the rifling, not the lead.

I've done a little shopping on ebay to get an idea of the prices. I don't know what the pricing is like or know what a good price is really. It does vary a lot on ebay, its crazy how much.

$1.10-$1.25 prepared, or cast into small one pound ingots is fair, shipping should only be $5.35 post office small flat rate box that you can get between 23-25 pounds into.

Scrap lead is a lot cheaper but most of it will not fit into the small bullet casting lead pots, I cook it in a big plumbers put that holds 40 pounds at once. Cooking scrap lead is both time consuming and messy, the reason you pay more for ingots.

I guess thats not too bad. Approximately how many bullets can you get from a pound? I'm thinking of starting with 38/357, .490 round ball, and .451 for my cap and ball revolver.

I keep a good size personal supply for myself. I cast 1200 .75 musket balls a couple of years back, enough to keep my Bess blasting away for a few years :)

I never calculated it as I make a wide variety of bullets, small .490's should get at least 30 or more to the pound I would think, weigh up some cast bullets, that will give you a good idea.

Wait until you get into the big muskets, they eat lead fast, one Bess .75 is like three little .38 special wadcutters.

Powder also, a full powder horn of average size is good for 22-24 shots before all I have in it is dust.

I guess I'm doomed. Ive already been browsing gunbroker for deals on other blackpowder rifles and pistols. Wouldn't mind trying a flintlock sometime. I am a very very sick person. I think the firearms disease has progressed quickly.

Start with a nice flinter pistol like the Pedersoli Kentucky and learn the basics on it.

Never have done drugs. Never will. I can't imagine it being for addicting or satisfying than black powder  .

Been eyeing the lyman great plains rifles. Not overly expensive but they look more true to the time period. I guess that ultimately what I'm looking into. Affordable but true to the styles of the time period. These custom rifles are nice but when seeing the price, sticker shock is an understatement

Having seen a few sorry ass junkies around I never even contemplated drugs, of course when I was growing up this was the sticks, we didn't even know what drugs were.
