Wow, nice! I can see right off that the bolt serial is a mismatch, not uncommon to see that in rifles this old that have seen much use. It looks correct, the bands have been polished but brass tarnishes in a few years, they will return to dull soon enough. The needle seems to be missing, or broken, or I just can't see it.
These are not commonly encountered rifles, and this one looks presentable, even the bore is in good condition. I can't help you with price as I haven't been tracking any, they don't show up for sale to often. I would think $500 and up.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

That is super nice looking! Very cool and interesting rifle
Let me make a short, open, blanket comment. There are no good guns. There are no bad guns. Any gun in the hands of a bad man is a bad thing. Any gun in the hands of a descent person is no threat to anyone--- except bad people. -- Charleton Heston

It was ground breaking. But it had a specific flaw with the rifle and cartrige design. But it paved the road for modern stuff. Was this what the russian military used up until the m91 was invented?

The one just prior to the m91 was the Berdan II rifle. Invented by an american. Russia had a close relationship with US armsmakers during the last part of the imperial era.

Ahh yes I remember reading that now. I couldn't remember if there was another one wedged in there.

That is a great find and a very historic rifle. I assume it is for show and not for shoot. Anyway, you couldn't find any cartridges for it even if you wanted to. It is my understanding that the soldiers carried spare needles with them in the field to replace when the pin broke, wore out, corroded, etc. The pin had to penetrate the paper cartridge all the way to the base if the bullet to contact the priming compound. Buy that rifle if the price is not ridiculous.
