8mm Persian/Iranian ammo purchase

Post by srv1 »

I'm going to be buying some 8mm Mauser ammo and all I can find is the Persian ammo. Before I make the leap, does anyone know where I can get some surplus Mauser ammo that is not Persian? I know it has just about dried up but this is the only ammo out there in the market. Heck it is even hard to find PPU modern ammo. I will not pay a $1 a round for ammo.

I found some locally using my state's gunboard (MD Shooters) and I check Gunboards as well. The problem with buying from someone out of state is the shipping. Good Luck!
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

All I can find is Persian ammo. I have been checking the gun boards. Actually I found some but the person is asking way too much for them. I believe it was Yugo ammo.

I was able to score some Romanian 8mm and it is good stuff. Good luck with your search

I think for now I will just grab the Persian and continue to look for others. I think the longer I wait, the worse it is going to be. I came into the C&R kind of late. I wish I was more interested in these a year or so ago but I wasn't. My Mosin changed my mind.

From what I've heard the Iranian/Persian 8mm is hit or miss sometimes. Just be careful with it. I've heard a percentage of it is hangfire/misfire. I can't speak from experience but this is what some have posted. There's some in the list here including some at Liberty Tree Collectors but not much. http://gun-deals.com/list/ammo/8mm+Mauser Also one of our members here has some Turkish and some older German stuff for sale. I list it for him here because he's not able to monitor it as much as me. He's a good friend and many here have bought stuff from him. Look at the last post for the latest list. Not much in it but some different stuff. He's an 8mm collector actually. His contact info. is at the bottom of the post. http://www.russian-mosin-nagant-forum.c ... 28&t=11537

Most of it works, but you will get some hangfires and missfires. I knew that going in but didn't much care as I need the bullets for reloading anyway. I did hear a rumor that some 8mm is coming in, but not when, or what type.

Yeah I saw that post but it is out of the price range of what I want to spend. I ordered a 1,000 rounds of the Persian ammo. I expect to be duds and hangfires. I will keep looking for other ammo and will order up some if the price is reasonable. I search forums and Armslist all the time. Most of the time, people do not want to ship.

Just wispers going around about some coming in, could be more Persian, I don't know. I use teh missfired bullets for my Lebel cartridges, they use the same .323 bullet.

A guy on another forum is selling 8mm bullets. This is what he has for sale but I do not know what the going rate is for these bullets:

11 sierra 175gn spitzer
73 hornady 150gn spire pt
50 hornady 220gn spire pt
100 hornady 150gn spire pt
59 hornady 170gn round nose
70 hornady 175gn spire pt
122 speer 170gn semi spire pt

Theres 485 total Id like to sell all together. $125 shipped

Is this a decent price?

About 30 bucks or so per 100 here. Some of them may be more but I don't get the most expensive bullets when I reload for fun. Looks like he is close.

That's a mixed lot of commercially manufactured bullets, as .323 has been harder to get recently due to all the ammo buying this may be the new good price.

So you think a .25 per bullet is fair? I may be able to get him to go a little lower.

It's been awhile since I bought any .323's, I think I was paying near that for the 175 Sierra bullets. Reloading ammo is useless without bullets, these are all good, lead core jacketed bullets, should be worth the money, but always make a lower offer. You just might get it. My plan now involved casting my own bullets with the Lee mold I have right here on my desk, I have several thousand gas checks for them already.

Is it a complete die set? Lee die's? RCBS or Lyman maybe?

All he mentioned was it was brand new and never used Lee die set.
