A little more information would help, Chinese, Russian, Yugo? There should be a small import mark on the rifle that will have the country of origin , Chinese SKS's have Chinese characters on them as a clue.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

How about a full body pic. It looks like one i saw yesterday at the gun shop with a really course stock but it was a 26 arsenal. Not sure of that arsenal mark cause of poor eyes. The one isaw had afunny lookin hand guard though, I thought it was a tad short. :D

It's Chinese with what I think is a "6666" factory code. Please shoot a full on pics, as I want to see that receiver cover and the scope mount.

It is Chinese. But, other than an /26\ we virtually know nothing about the other Chinese Factory Codes. They were secretive about them and may have had various codes stamped even at the 26. We just do not know. This will show you most of the codes we know were imported here.

From your pics, it looks like you have a "short barreled" lug (threaded barrel), which would only date the rifle within a range of time built (1965-1980). The serial number is on the higher side(which may or may not mean anything), but possibly built in the mid-late 70's. This is just a guess and no way to really know, but somewhere in that time frame, is possible.

This is what the Factory /26\ arsenal mark looks like:
Image

Yours looks like this one below, which is the Factory /6666\ arsenal. You can see the "6" inside of a triangle, but there 3 other stylized "6's" on all three corners of the main triangle:

Image

Factory /6665\ also looks like yours, but on this mark there is a slight space between the farthest right "6", which makes it into a "5". A closeup of your arsenal mark would help determine exactly which one we are looking at. It's hard to explain "lines & spaces" in a post. Compare the pic I have shown here of the /6666\ with the one of the /6665\ on the link Old Outlaw sent you and you can hopefully see what I am talking about.
