How to tell if it is a fake

Post by goldwinghg »

I am new to the forum. I am trying to help a gentleman sale, what he said was a real sniper rifle. I don't know if it is, or isn't. What is some of the ways I can tell if it is real? The guy bought the gun as a real sniper rifle, but I am trying to help him sell it, and I just want to be sure that it is. If it is what is a good price for one. If you can give me some things to look at, to determine wether it is real or not, would be very much appreciated.

It would be easier to post some pictures of the Date of Mfg of rifle, Left side of rifle/scope mount. Bolt arm. Scope, Turrents, for starters.

Welcome to the board, please make the pictures as well lit and clear as possible, short of holding the actual rifle the pics are what we have to work from in a case like this.

i was at a gun show this weekend, saw a PU that was tagged viet nam bring back 899 dollars ?. the barrel did have the scope # stamped on it and it did not look like it had a newer repro scope on it. it for sure had a like new shiny bent bolt on it. came with a new print pamphlet with a NVA star on the cover. i did not look at the rifle or pamphlet in detail. i have bought Mosins in the past from this dealer and do not want to think this rifle was a fake. i think it is.

As stated above, photos are the best way.

What is the serial number of the scope? If it starts with a Cyrillic letter that looks like a 4 or y, the scope is one of the current production Ukrainian fakes/replicas, and this might indicate the rifle is also fake.

That would scream fake to me.

Better to walk away from that one. If he had documentation to indicate it was a Vietnam bring back, I believe it would be priced higher.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Hello Everyone!

Are the Mosin sniper rifles that Classic Arms is selling the real thing? Are these actual sniper rifles that were made and set up, and used as "sniper rifles" when they were put into storage in Russia years and years ago?

I know sometimes sales people use "creative" language to try to sell something as "authentic" when in fact, perhaps the item is not exactly "authentic" as a collector would define authentic.

Any advice is much appreciated!

Never mind...It seems I missed the "out of stock" at the bottom of the page...Any help in locating a real one is much appreciated.

The ones at RGuns are without a doubt real. http://www.rguns.net/rifles/rifles-bolt.shtml The one's that most other places are selling are either out right fakes or one's from Molot like the one at Classic and those are still under a cloud of doubt as to whether they're authentic. There's plenty of threads about them here. http://www.russian-mosin-nagant-forum.c ... m.php?f=64
