Looks just fine to me
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Yea, you don't see Garands selling at 91/30 prices any more, but once upon a time I sat right here in this office were I am now and paid a man $200 for one. I got a call one morning from a small "coffee table" dealer who asks me if I would be interested in a Garand , he just got a few in. Does a bear shit in the woods? I told him to motorvate his ass over here with that rifle, I don't even think I asked him the price. Back before the Korean hoard came in Garands were expensive and hard to find, there was no internet to help locate stuff easily. The flood of incoming rifles had the effect of bringing down prices for several years, I was able to build a collection of Garands, including some former DCM rifles that would have set me back $500-$700 1980's dollars in previous times. 1943 Springfield receiver, a faint Blue Sky import mark stamped on the barrel ( some were heavy stamped and ruined barrels) nice wood, and Parkerizing, but no clips! I had to roust every surplus store for miles around to find two clips so I wouldn't have to single feed the rifle. I later ordered a hundred from Numrich, and acquired many more since. Sling from Sarco, and cleaning kit/oiler, bayonet from the local surplus store for $15, then the ammo from Paragon sales.

Yup... she looks lonely, I'm thinking another one will be on order soon! Someone asked the CMP head cheese on the boards why the wait is so long. He said they currently have 20,000 orders outstanding, 6000 of which is for 22lr ammo which they won't see until October with a small amount of kimber .22's mixed in! I'm guessing their warehouse was used for that scene in one of the Raiders of the Lost Ark movies... pure heaven!

Probably staffing limitation as well. The sort of checks they perform on the rifles before they send them out require more than the skill level of a box packer, and take time.

My Winchesters, note the cool cer. # on the left one and the Dutch VAR barrel on one. The VAR barreled one is my most accurate M1. All my M1's are from the small (20k) Dutch give back during the 90's. They were well maintained weapons with a Beretta parts mixed in. One has a SA 1945 barrel and one has a SA 1949 barrel. Hand picked by me and the wife at the North store.
