Mine was red and had the wood on the sides. It had a cool transmission. You could drive it as usual for the times using all three gears on the steering column or you could push the clutch 1/2 way down and to the side and put the shifter in second gear position and drive it like an automatic and not shift.

You had a 1948 Chrysler Town and Country woodie? That was a very limited production car at the time , highly sought after today and very big money when found even in basket case condition.

The transmission is the Chrysler Fluid Drive semi automatic with two speeds in high and low range. I have it in my DeSoto, you hear it clunk at 15 MPH as it shifts itself .

Yup, that's the one. The guy I bought it from had jut been drafted and needed money to get to San Diego to report for duty. He wanted $25.00 but my dad offered him $17.50 and he took it. I changed the oil, at about 19 cents a can and sold it for $100.00 about 3 weeks later. I only drove it around the block a dozen times as I didn't have a drivers licence and my dad wouldn't let me go on the main roads. I saved the money and bought a '50 Ford sedan for $90.00. Got my licence right after that and the world changed.

Yes, the world was a very different place then. For one thing, we were only afraid of the Russians then and their threat of nuclear continental ballistic missiles. Parent were afraid of some guys from England with long hair too.

I really wanted a 1960 Lincoln Continental Mark V. It wasn't a Caddie but it oozed class

What did I start with this post? The oldest car I ever owned was a 1967 Dodge Dart. It was the color shown in the pic and had ZERO options. No tinted glass, no radio, NOTHING! It had this rubber nubby floor covering, vinyl seats, a slant 6 engine. "3 on a tree" transmission and these vents down by your legs that you could open.. they were called "summer boxes". Basically, you opened a little door down by the wheel well and the air blew in off the road by your legs.

My Mom's cousin passed away and she inherited all of his stuff. She sold it to me for $50 back around 1983. It was in great condition. A couple of small, nickle sized rust spots. some pitting on the chrome and some of the rubber weather stripping was dried out and leaking, but besides that, it was in great condition. I bought new tires for it and it needed brakes. Before I had a chance to get the brakes done, I was going too fast over the crest of a steep hill and the brakes gave out and I flipped it over and totaled it.

I know the 60's and 70's Darts well :) Around here rust killed them fast. I just saw some fantastic 1960 Caddy's up at the car show, very impressive cars.

Again, that says nothing about gold being cheap, it speaks to the value of the dollar.
Yep... We really are in the gun bargain Nirvana right now. Or at least up to a few years ago.

+1 We may not have all the uber rare models that could be found back then but between 1990- 2010 was Mil-Surps hay days...........

I was bringing home stuff by the trunkload back then. It was a rare show that I only bought one gun, mostly it was three to five, even more at a time. They were the best of times.
