Congrats. that's gorgeous !
Re: I am honored to present...
It has a post-war bluing pattern. For a rare rifle like this, that's much less of a 'problem' IMO. It IS in amazing shape. Also, I agree with those above: great pictures of a great piece!

Photos 20 and 24 show the gashes I am talking about. It's still a nice stock.bunkysdad wrote:For crying out loud! What gashes are they talking about? This rifle is a beautiful 10! I see no detractions on this war rifle. Congrats Finnaddict.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Absolutely beautiful Finn. Congrats.

Re: I am honored to present...
Very nice indeed! The misdated stock is more than likely and arsenal replacement at refurbishment. It has a later knothole type repair I see too. Some of the later done m28/30's actually had no machined space in the stock wood for the aluminum bushing and I think that is what Finloq is refering to? What is under the wood? Any numbers or dates at all? Extremely nice rifle, it sure is shiney and new looking from refurbishment. Congrats and Thanks for sharing with us! Bill

Beautiful rifle! Congrats!
The whole stock is Finnish made, no Russian rear pieces were used anymore in 1939. All those stamped stocks (beginning in late 1937) are completely new Finnish manufacture stocks. Two piece stocks without SKY stamping indeed had Russian rear piece.FINNADDICT wrote: The stock is two piece with a Russian rear. The stock is not matching ('39) but has a very nice Suojeluskuntain Yliesikunta (Civil Guard) acceptance stamp. There is a Civil Guard stamp on the underside of the stock wrist too in miniture.

I stand corrected. You are right. I have no idea why I made that statement. Obvious but I missed it. Even after I examined the stock and saw no Russian clues. I think I did so because the escutcheons have that typical refurb shellac look smeared over the metal.Bugelson wrote:Beautiful rifle! Congrats!![]()

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

And to expand on the stock, the finish is not shellac. The M28-30's and some M28's were sealed with Pomo-lacquer.FINNADDICT wrote:I stand corrected. You are right. Is this product still available? I would love to use it on my humidor when next I refinish it, it's in Soviet red Shellac now.

Re: I am honored to present...
Nope, it's not available anymore. If there's same sort of lacquer still available with different manufacturer and trade name, I can't say.

Now I have to walk funny all day......
Very Beautiful rifle! There are tooling marks still in the barrel. Certainly couldn't complain about the accuracy; a great addition to your collection, Finnaddict!
I can see why you have earned your username.
