Where are all the Finns coming from?
Where are all the Finns coming from?
I'm fairly new to the forum and this may be normal, but it seems to me that a lot of Finn rifles are popping up everywhere. Are they just coming out now or have they been presented to the forum this often all along? I found two myself last year and bought them. Just wondering.

The Finn Mosins were imported in large numbers back in the late 1980's and into the 90's, even today one seller still has M39's for sale. Higher prices are luring some people who bought them when they cost $45 to sell them for $500. People also kick off and their collections come on the market, it's been 25 years...

I find them where I can. And that is not very often, mostly on GB. And at hella high prices.

I have a nice B Barrel M91 arriving by Friday. There were a lot bought back in the day & they always seem to percolate back into the market as owners pass on or when they realize they can make a tidy profit from what they originally paid many moons ago.

The obvious but true answer!
When Finnish rifles first came into this country they were well under $100 even the infamous M39's were in that range too. I bought a dozen one time and each and every one was $110 with shipping and transfer. Now the original owners are dieing off and they are plentiful if it is realised what they are and sold by the new owners. That is a double edged sword because if the new owners know what they are worth today they price accordingly. SOG once had a sal three Finn's for $120 and they were dirt cheap at Rose stores. Even when the first bunch I remember of M91's came in they were $60 or less if you bought more of them. As collector rifles they were a cheap buy then that has appreciated now. I remember many years ago when I kept purchase price records my whole collection per rifle if averaged out was less than $100 each. Try and get some of them now for less than $100! Life and life styles have increased in value and cost too! Ain't no such thing as a free lunch and there never will be either. Unless JYD is buying!

My last rifle was from a dealer liquidating an estate. He really didn't know what he had, but was smart enough to sell it at auction on Gunbroker. Fortunately for me he was also a poor photographer and it slipped by most people's radar so I got it for around $100 less than market value.

Hey did any of you jump on this deal back in the day? I wish I had bought all they had at 5 for $250 with free ship. None had cracked stocks just hairline cracks in hand-guards. They were all matching nice rifles.

That outfit id Pat Burns today, I didn't have dealings with them back then, but later on I did buy a lot of M39's from Pat. In the early 90's I was busy buying every US milsurp that wasn't nailed down.

I was on an antique woodworking tool site the other day. Some old geezer was peddling off his entire collection for a song. Everything was in display cases, nicely done. He's been trying move it along before he dies, so far no takers...Junk Yard Dog wrote: People also kick off and their collections come on the market, it's been 25 years...

That's a shame, but that kind of tool set is hard to move, we get stuff like that in for scrap.
