Here is a Thought! What Rifle's did they carry in the Movie
Movie: Dr. Zhivago? It has been many Year's sience I saw the Film. It was made in 1965. I Dont remember where. With all the Russian Army Soldiers in the Movie with Rifles. I wonder if anyone recall's were they carring Mosin-Nagant M-1891's? With all the Historic Effort put in the Film, I wonder if this was the first Movie to see Mosin-Nagant's in it?

Thanks for the Link, that does make sense, I did not even think of the Finn's Version of the Rifle. With what they had they did a good Job.

In most of the scenes in "Dr. Zhivago", the Russians were carrying Spanish Model 1893 Mausers.
One of my friends gave me a Spanish 93 Mauser that his mom brought back from Spain before the Gun Control Act of 1968 was inflicted on us. I like to think that the rifle may have been in the film.

Don't remember, but that was filmed in the era when States War films had Union and Confederate soldiers carrying trapdoor Springfields

I finally dug out my copy of "Dr. Zhivago" and watched some of the scenes with rifles. There was definitely a mix of Mosins and 1893 Mausers.
In the scene where Pasha led his unit over the top, the troops appeared to be carrying nothing but Mosins. In the scenes when the deserters from the front met up with the replacement unit, almost all of the rifles were Mausers. The only Mosin that I saw then was the one held by the first guy in the replacement unit to break ranks. All the others were Mausers, including the one used to shoot the officer in the barrel.

Back then before home video and DVD had been thought of Hollywood would use whatever rifles were on hand to arm extras in battle scenes. Spanish Mauser's would have been around.

In the movie "Zulu" all the close ups are of Martini-Henry's. Now in the group 'volley fire' shots you see bolts getting thrown and all manner of other nonsense. Still a great flick. Sometimes (especially when the Boss is at work and I'm off i watch "Zulu Dawn" and "Zulu" back to back.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!
