You've got a nicely grained stock there. That one is a keeper.

I made the mistake of buying an empty Mosin crate..... It looked so lonely with 20 empty slots. Only 6 to :bang: :bang:

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

AIM has MN's back up for 119 this morning. I bought another . . . .

They're so inexpensive and shoot a nice big relatively inexpensive rifle round, they're hard to pass up.

This isn't a new rifle you just bought and can shoot it right out of the box. The first thing you should do is get on YouTube and find a video that tells you how to totally strip the rifle down and clean the cosmoline off it, inside and out. If you do not do this you will probably have to use a hammer to open the bolt after a few rounds are fired. Pay particular attention to the breech and the bolt. The bolt is easy to take apart and clean. The breech is harder because there may be old, dried cosmoline in it and you really have to work at it. Q-tips and mineral spirits work great for cleaning the breech. Shine a little white LED flashlight into the breech to see if it is clean. The white light will show nice shiny metal if it is clean. You will see brown areas if you haven't gotten it all. It makes all the difference in having something that's fun to shoot or having something you want to wrap around a tree trunk. Of course if you know this stuff already, sorry for the waste of your time.
