1955 Type 53 Showcase Consideration

Post by JDennis »

This is my 1955 Type 53 that was sitting at my LGS for a few months. I overlooked it since it was WAY high priced, but finally looked at it closer and made a offer he accepted.

Image

Image

It is numbers matching and the blueing is in fantastic shape which is unusual for a Type 53

Image

The Stock has its normal dings but overall seems average to above for a Type 53. Even the stock has the serial number carved into it!

This is under the barrel

Image

This is under the receiver along with a yellow splotch of paint and some stamps. It is also carved 9792

Image

There are many small stamps of various numbers on the stock, some stamped 20, some 46, some not sure.

Image

Image

Image

A unusal stamp on the forend of the stock, a circle with what looks like a animal or flower in it.

Image

At some point someone put a S or something on the stock with something pointy.

Image

The bore is phenominal. Very crisp and bright. So bright it was hard to get a pic so I had to offset the light.

Image

Lastly there are inspection or assembly numbers on the bolt, recevier, and buttplate with the number 27 stamped on them. Here is the recevier and bolt stamp, the other stamp you can see in the pic above of the buttplate. Even the stock had a 27 stamped in it.

Image

Image

Another Unique note would be that out of the entire rifle, there is ONE part that has a russian marking on it. Under the rear sight leaf, there hides a small Izhevsk stamp! So somehow a russian part made it onto this Type 53

The Shadow may know, but nobody else does, the commies, Russians, or Chinese, do not talk about weapons production.

Mostly I am listening to North Korean commies who want to nuke me, how fortunate for them that I am not yet in charge or there would be no North Korea. The commies love secrets, the Russians who came after them love secrets also, what 70 year old information about bolt rifle production could possibly be worth keeping secret is beyond me, but that's how it is.

This is a nice one, I wonder if the pointed object used on the stock was the firing pin? The previous owner/soldier sure seems to have maintained it well.

I thought that as well but forgot after cleaning it to see if the end fit into the indentions. That chu wood is soft. You could make a indention with your fingernail almost.

Look at the C.A.I. import stamp. I can't tell from the picture but it should be etched "after" the bluing was applied. If that stamp is blued than the bluing was done after the import mark. The metal looks great compared to the stock.
