A consensus on the Molot Mosins yet?

Post by GD2A »

I was wondering if there was a consensus yet as to their authenticity or if that's ever a possibility?

From what I've read on this forum the sicking point seems to be the pristine barrels they have. I've been reading different posts about altering a historic gun/making a project gun out of one. If these cannot be fully vetted then are they fair game or does the majority of original parts disallow that?

To be clear, I don't alter anything I own, save the magazines on my Glock 30, to which I added Pearce extensions to get a better grip.

I'd just like to know what to expect of these carbines, the 38's & 44's. I just purchased my first (a 38 from Classic) and am pleased regardless but have a curious mind :)

Thanks,

Matt

Nothing has been decided yet and probably won't be for some time but they've started a sub-forum here for them to further examine them. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11121

Thanks, read all through that and thought (meant to, anyway) I posted in there. I thoroughly enjoy watching the layers of the onion being peeled back on this topic!

We are working on it, one of the administrators has a Molot in hand and is looking it over.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

What would help is if people who have them would post them with some good pics in the Molot forum so we can all get a handle on these from examining as many of them as possible.

Agreed. I am hoping to see some locally at the next gunshow. But the only way we can discern what it is that Molot is churning out is for many examples to be documented via descriptions, pictures & such.

While the ones I've seen posted here have what look like period-arsenal refinished stocks, I've seen a couple floating through Gunbroker with the telltale Molot stamps and what looks to be new or modern-refinished stocks. Very blonde and smooth/glossy, like a clear poly over natural birch.
