My first Mosin-Nagant. Got it on Friday and I'm still cleaning it lol.
The folks on calguns.net were saying this could be an ex-dragoon (which apparently has nothing at all to do with dragons) I was wondering if anyone here could tell me any more about the history of this firearm?
It is an ex dragoon, in my latest video I have a 1930 Tula ex dragoon on display. The 91/30 did not just spring into being, it was adopted in 1930, then gradually phased in over the next few years. Older sights and other parts in inventory were used up and replaced with the new parts. There is not a great deal of difference between a dragoon rifle and the 91/30, handguard, bands, front and rear sights, and later after 1935 at Izhevsk, and 1936 at Tula the round receiver came into use. That's a very nice Izhevsk ex dragoon you have
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

That is a very nice way to begin the Mosin fever. That rifle was carried during WWII, most likely in some of the most violent actions the world has ever seen. It is a vet, treat it well.
Peoplephobic, welcome to the forum. I don't know if you have other military surplus rifles, but you sure found a nice one here. This one looks like it was refurbished very nicely. I remember finding one like it one day, and just had to haved it. It is also a 1930 Izhevsk. I love these. Do you plan to shoot it soon?

I would like to shoot it but the weather has not been appropriate. I have been looking for a "beater" Mosin in the meantime to keep mine pristine but people seem to want more for the common ones fired a thousand times than I paid for this one.
This is my first military surplus rifle. Will probably try to collect one of each of the nation's WWII rifles. I originally got this Mosin to shoot cheap surplus ammo since .22 LR prices are insane right now. But there is something about holding it that makes you feel connected to history. Definitely want more of that. Waiting on my C & R.

That does seem to be the trend now, everything has turned to solid gold.
