The SkS arrived

Post by hoshow »

Hey everyone,
My new SKS arrived today. It was advertised as good condition so I knew it would be a little rough around the edges and it is. I am pretty pleased to have it all the same  . The only scare was when I looked in the bore there was a piece of yellow plastic stuck in there. Came out really easily and the bore looks great  . Sorry the pics are so bad. It has some nice markings :vcool: :vcool: but I couldn't get a decent pic of them.

What's rough about it? Looks great, just like a milsurp is supposed to look
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Here is a pic of the foreign object I found in the bore :big shock:. Also there is what appears to a nail in each side of the upper stock near the bayonet. Is this a normal feature of the rifle or is it likely a field repair of some sort? I don't see any cracks in the stock to warrant a nail, and they are pretty symmetrical :vconfused: I will include a pic of the nail as well and a better pic of the rifle

What is that, a stick? Or is it the mummy of something long, worm like and with way too many legs?

I like it.
I put off buying one until I had my C&R. Now I can't find one.

Call SOG and ask. They were listed as out of stock on the website, but the woman I spoke with told me they were in stock. She said they are doing all business over the phone not internet because they can't keep the internet info updated.

Nope JYD it was not a mummy of a worm . It was a piece of plastic tubing. When I first saw it sticking out I thought it was a stick and someone had tried to use it to clear a jam out of the barrel, but upon further inspection it came right out and the barrel was not clogged with anything

Nice

The "nail" is the forearm reinforcing bolt, they are present on all SKS's, it's a threaded rod with the ends ground flush. On a Yugoslavian you can see on one side, it looks like a flat blade screw driver would fit it. Don't try to remove it

Thanks greasemonkey. I thought it looked too symmetrical to be a nail, but that's what it looked like :big shock:. If I had taken the time to check my other sks I would have noticed it had one too .

Must have been in the packing material and got stuck in there, or the rifle spent some time sitting in some Balkan bomb making factory.
