Re: Classic has M38s
More than twice what I paid for the same rifle ( with shipping) just five years ago. I did warn people to buy while the price was good.

"Arsenal Refinished by Molot",.........Is that like Michell's does to Mausers?
Last I knew Molot was not an "Arsenal".
They are just a company like Mitchell's is.

The way they described them makes me feel nervous about buying one of these.

I don't know; they sure look sweet in the pictures. I have no experience with any of the Molot marketed Mosin Nagants, but sure is tempting.
Re: Classic has M38s
Mo money, a lot mo money; thus Molot. Yesterday I was a 91/30...today I am a M-38, who knows about tomorrow.

I hear ya, and I know a lot of you guys out there use your C&R to occasionally take a chance and buy guns that you haven't actually had a chance to inspect, other than pictures. Question one: Have you ever been burned by a purchase on GB or from some other distributor that advertised an "authentic" and turned out to be fake?SA1911a1 wrote:Mo money, a lot mo money; thus Molot. Question two: Do you have a reason to believe these Molot guys are whacking up perfectly good M91/30's to make a fake M38? If so, I am not touching them.
I only have one M38 that I bought at a gun show a little over a year ago. I love the weapon for it's looks, shootability, and accuracy. It is my favorite Mosin Nagant. As such, I have given this one tender loving care and would love to have another. However, but I don't want to be hoodwinked by some outfit that is making fake guns and selling them as authentic or one that is refurbing weapons beyond what was done at the original arsenal. Seems to be real hard to find these little jewels these days.

I think we can assume from the appearance of Molot on the market that the Ukrainian hoard has finally trickled to a stop?

Re: Classic has M38s
To answer the question; I have had over thirty good experiences buying guns on-line, and 0 bad experiences. My time is probably due for a real smacking.
As far as Molot; I have no reason to believe that they are doing anything wrong. They have passed the "sniper" test by the accepted Mosin-Nagant Gurus, who know a hell of a lot more about these guns than I do. I may be a bit too cynical about the Molot bunch, but something about them just hasn't passed my sniff test. They may be fine.
You have to go with your gut feelings. If I needed an example of a M-38, I might go for one. I paid more than they are asking for the only one I own.

Re: Classic has M38s
There has been no affirmation of the snipers as yet, there are still some questions. MOLOT is well known as a "maker of firearms". Until MOLOT has been verified as an upstanding company I will stay with what I know. Is Classic going to chrome a few of these too?SA1911a1 wrote:To answer the question; I have had over thirty good experiences buying guns on-line, and 0 bad experiences. That seems like a very low price.........
Also since it was asked, YES, I have been in this a short time and been burned twice on GB auctions BECAUSE I did not ask all the right questions....my error........BUT......I learned. All in all an economical education even at my "advanced" age
RE: the M38's Just something about this "offer makes me shy. Then too I am not currently looking for an M38.

Re: Classic has M38s
Hasn't it been discussed that Molot may just be acting as an exporter to get Mosins out of Russia proper. On the surface it looks like all they are doing is marking and packaging them for export. From all that i have heard the M44's were quite nice. It would seem that in this day and age finding out answers to the simple questions would be just that , simple.

You may be right. I guess we all just have to do our homework, network together for information, and make an informed choice. I'm not going to rule them out just yet.ffeng31 wrote:Hasn't it been discussed that Molot may just be acting as an exporter to get Mosins out of Russia proper. I have only one M38; a 1944 Izhevsk with a high wall reciever. I would like to find one more different in some way than the one I have. Folks have some great ones on this forum; veritable eye candy for those of us less fortunate.

Re: Classic has M38s
These first batches will probably be very nice, stamped matching refurbished after WWII rifles... The ones we have been hoping for to come out of the former Soviet Union. Problem is... These are being sent through a commercial enterprise that is not apposed to doing whatever they need to market, exploit & create a retail product for the consumer (Think Mitchell's Mausers). Now imagine what MOLOT will be shipping in 5 years from now when they start scraping the bottom of the barrel! Maybe some PEM Sniper M44's??? Who knows... That's the problem.tjtM38 wrote:You may be right. I guess we all just have to do our homework, network together for information, and make an informed choice. Agreed. I guess we can only hope. At least we'll be able to tell the difference. It's the novice collector that will unfortunately get taken.
