1942 M91/30 XO-48
Anyone have a rifle in the xo series? Here are a couple of pics. The rifle is dominated with a <y> mark in at least 12 places. In the finger grip is stamped A 4 one one side and a 3 with a stylized cartouche over it. There is a well placed "K" at the drop of the woodline on the reciever. Any information is appreciated.

The XO marks are an unsolved mystery. Some say secret police, but only Russia knows and they aren't saying
I have a 1935 round receiver XO-47, it has two <y> stamps. And I believe there are some Mosin's stamped XO-46 floating around.

Only thing out of the ordinary with it, is the trigger. It's one of the very few Russian refurbs I've found that has a trigger that can make some Finnish Mosin triggers look bad. Seems very well done and very crisp for a military weapon, especially a refurb Russian weapon. I don't think it was altered here, it was still packed full of grease when I got it from it's owner.
The bolt, I have noticed nothing special about, of course it's been a while since I've had it out and apart.

Nice rifle, the round unmarked part of the receiver ahead of the bolt behind the XO stamp looks to be heavier and thicker than some others, but sometimes a camera makes things a little bigger maybe?Yours is the first I've seen.

compared to a common refurb I have for 1942 this rifle has a much smoother finish.

It has the look of the 38-40 recievers. Maybe it is a reused one or maybe polished for that group. Maybe they were guards of the countries vodka supply and had to have nice rifles. Isn't there an XO brand of vodka..?

I usually don't open rifles, so that might remain a mystery. I am going to shoot some photos of the bolt. it is markedly different than a standard bolt.

Nothing out of the ordinary mark wise on the bolt, however it does have several markings. It looks to have had the bolt handle reworked at some point in life. Looks like it was welded back on or heated and then ground down and wire wheeled heavily. Same with the cocking knob, like someone wire wheeled the heck out it.
