Pics of the trainer ?
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

We got a few guys with trainers around here, I have an Australian Enfield, brand new in the box, but the pics will have to wait till the computer at home is up and running.

Re: Some .22's.
I'll tell you I really like mine. It's on duty around here and earns it's keep that's for sure. Really neat rifle. Another Big5 purchase. I only got it to shoot with a buddy while he taught his son about firearms when we went out. My other .22 was in Maryland so I picked it up for $70 or $80 if I remember correctly. I love my large caliber firearms don't get me wrong but .22 caliber rifles are hard to beat as an all round work and fun rifle.Junk Yard Dog wrote:We got a few guys with trainers around here, I have an Australian Enfield, brand new in the box, but the pics will have to wait till the computer at home is up and running.

Re: Some .22's.
I shoot at least 100 rounds of .22 for every round of .30 centerfire every year. .22 is fun, don't bust the bank, and can be shot most places were the noise of the big rifles would soon put a stop to the fun. Problem is all the kid sized .22 I have to turn donw each year, but I still find a few adult sized rifles in the mix. The Enfield is the best, full size, ultra bull barrel, not lined but .22 original made to match the full size .30 barrel. You could fire that rifle with your nose on the buttplate and feel nothing

Re: Some .22's.
Yeah that's why I stocked up on .22lr this year. I got most of what I have at cost. Besides the hundreds of varmints I've cleared out of here I've had to use it to clear the ponds of cooters, stinky jims and cottenmouths. I haven't gone out to just target shoot for a while. Even though I can shoot whatever caliber here with no complaints, heck the neighbors would probably come join in, I love the forgiving nature of the .22lr. It's the most universal and fun round ever made in my opinion.Junk Yard Dog wrote:I shoot at least 100 rounds of .22 for every round of .30 centerfire every year. .22 is fun, don't bust the bank, and can be shot most places were the noise of the big rifles would soon put a stop to the fun. Re: Some .22's.
"cooters, stinky jims" What? I know what a cottonmouth is, but these critters are new to me, at least by these names. I know who cooter is from Dukes of Hazzard, and stinky jim is a guy I went to school with Jim Roberts, the man washed once a month, and was known for foul flatulence. If you know him and had to get rid of him we understand. Cooter on the other hand is OK

Re: Some .22's.
Yeah I'd never heard of a Stinky Jim until I came here but Cooters I had heard of. They're both turtles. Cooters are Red Eared Sliders like you used to get at G.C. Murphy's pet dept. There's millions of them here and though the ones you would get at the pet dept. were as big as silver dollar these get as big as a football and eat the pond fish as well as compete with them for food. I have large Mouth Bass, Perch and Breem (Sun Fish) among others that they eat. Don't know much about Stinky Jims. The biggest Large Mouth Bass I ever got out of my pond was about 1.5 to 2lbs. when I first got here. After I thinned them out I we started getting 5+ pounders. I also had some very large snapping turtles. During the depression the WPA came through here and did a bunch of projects including putting ponds on most if not all of the farms. They're mostly livestock ponds. This area had dairies all over the place and had lots of thirsty cows. Everyone here has at least one pond and they're full of turtles and snakes. If you think Cooters and Stinky Jims is obscure how about Salamanders. The first time I heard this it confused the heck out of me because the person telling me this was talking about all of the mounds of dirt in the fields the Salamanders leave while tunneling that damage the hay cutters. Salamanders are Gophers. Go figure. Below is a picture of a snapping turtle I got from the pond in the back field. Tell me this guy wasn't chowing down on some serious fish. Oh and in keeping with this thread, he was taken with a .22cal. Romanian Trainer.

Re: Some .22's.
Cool looking guns. I like the old milsurp .22lrs. Wideners just recently put Polish WZ78s up for sale and yesterday two Czech bolt rilfes. One's a Brno and I'm not sure but I think the other is too. They think highly of them but they are nice looking. http://www.wideners.com/itemview.cfm?dir=700|701|1028 It's been real hard to resist hitting the buy button.

They are not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when pushed down a flight of stairs.

Hey I didn't want to be the only one. You have no idea how tempting it is to not buy one if each. No wait you do.Alden wrote:Those Polish trainers are CHOICE!![]()

The bottom one..the Mossberg... That looks almost like my Revelation 100B which was made by Mossberg for western auto supply...so mine is actually a Mossberg 321 Single shot...This was my first rifle as well..sbkittrell wrote:Top to bottom: Marlin M1, Marlin Model 39A, Western Field (Mossberg) M842 w/Centerpoint rimfire scope. I'm a tube magazine freak when it comes to .22's because they are compatible with shorts, longs, long rifles, stingers.

Re: Some .22's.
Here is a interesting 22. It's a Erma Werke Mfg'd Iver Johnson 22 M1 carbine. My brother came across it but was missing a mag and the ever elusive rear aperture sight. The missing parts were found, and I think a replacement mag cost what he paid for the carbine. My camera skills really stunk that day.

That's a pretty cool looking rifle. I like how they grooved the forward, upper stock for an open sight path. I like the story behind the gun too

Re: Some .22's.
If you do find an Iver Johnson .22 carbine, make sure it has the rear sight and a mag, both will run close to or over 200 buck for replacements, The spare mag I got for mine was an original and ran me 80bucks, the rear sight is the same off the American 180, a type of drum feed .22 machine gun, currently part is available but it's 90bucks.
Here is my Iver, has orginial M1 sling, oil can, and yes, if you look, it even has the M1 Carbine bayonet lug style band on the front, and a bayonet will attach
