Looking for advice on Rommian PSL
I know that 10 different people can have exactly the same rife, or for that matter any item, and each will have a completely different response and experience. For the last few years I have look at the PSL not for any particular reason or use but like it for some reason. There is a gentleman close to home that has one up for sale with tons of ammo, mags, spare parts but I have never had the chance to put HANDS ON or known anyone personally that owns or even viewed one so I am seeking any information as to what to look for, the bad or good and I felt that this board would most likely offer the best starting point. Again this is a rifle that I don't need, but I have a lot of those things, its just one that has a certain appeal.

I know nothing about them really but I'm sure more specific info. about the rifle and how much he wants for it and what exactly all of the things he has for sale with it are. Is it a package deal or is he selling the rifle seperately? That kind of thing would be helpful.

It can be a crapshoot... Most are adequate, some are great & some are crap. IMHO, Buy one from a private party you trust. If they can testify that it performs well without issues then your good to go. I would even pay extra for that piece of mind.

Re: Looking for advice on Rommian PSL
Having owned one for quite a while, it's not a sniper rifle. It's know as a designated marksmans rifle. If pin point accuracy is your goal, look elsewhere, if you just want to hit the man sized target at 600+yrd, then it is ready and capable.
Mine has no issues doing that, but thats it's design, it's basically an uber AK. I would change a few things, length of pull, very short, scope included with rifle, it's ok, but much better available from http://kalinkaoptics.com/rifle-scopes/posp.html. Trigger can use some love also, mine was rough and gritty, that I did fix. The wood finish is not, ok, it sucks, fixed that also.
Something else that can effect it, look at the barrel, it's very thin, and will heat rapidly, it does effect accuracy to an extent. Mine seemed to favor Czech or Albanian light ball ammo, NO heavy ball ammo allowed, I was warned, so whether it's true, it's not worth it for me to find out. I was told the bolt would beat rear of the receiver to pieces.
I believe some are now made from parts kits, receiver made in the U.S., mine is an early one, imported from Romania, I don't know about the quality difference between the two.
Would I sell it, nope, no way, but operated within it's design and range, it's a great big frickin AK with free scope that fires a hard hitting round of cheap milsurp ammo. Some people love them and claim sniper like accuracy, others find a bad one and run them in the ground. I'd say mine, the one and first time I got to play on a 600 yard range, I did manage to hit the target 9 outta 10 times, 8 were in the black area.
The original scope and me are not the greatest.

Greasemonkey, that is the type advice, information that I was looking to get. I have rifles that in the hands of young eyes and steady nerves can reach out and do it's job. The PSL for some reason has always drawn me to it, maybe its just a guy thing but I have reached the age now that kids are grown, house is paid for, cars and truck paid so its my time. Thanks again

Real gun control is the ability to hit the target.

No Enfields
What were you doing in 1992 when we were buying them at three for a hundred? You gotta have at least one Enfield! The PSL ain't a milsurp, it's a commercial sporter with a military heritage, I thing someone on the old board had one that was less than perfect, finding the exact post in the archive could take months.

Any details on the trigger work you did? I have a Cugir arsenal PSL that could use a bit of refinement in the bang switch area.Greasemonkey wrote: Thats why I didn't feel bad altering the PSL stock, making the bolt silver or trigger work. The changes I made I believed helped the rifle.

Re: Looking for advice on Rommian PSL
I did first try this, basic trigger job for an AK, polish hammer and sear, it helps some but I was nervous about how much angles could change or if I'd remove to much metal. I don't mind messing with triggers on bolt actions but a semi auto is another story. Just the fear of a full auto experience unexpectedly.websterz wrote:Any details on the trigger work you did? then I installed the Tapco G2 single hook, there are instructions for installing the double hook trigger floating around, but it's alot more involved.

This is what I'm considering now, I should have went this route to begin with and just be done with it. Twice the price, half the headache of polishing factory stuff or buying the Tapco and wondering if it couldn't be even better.

I have a couple of the Ishapoor 7.62'a as well, one a regular 1A rifle, the other a Gibbs Bubba carbine they called the no7 but is in fact a cut down 2A. Both are good shooters with 7.62x51mm NATO

I really enjoy being humbled with milsurps, because I'm sure I'll learn something new, which is part of the fun.OLD OUTLAW wrote:Hey Boss, watch out for my two friends Sheepy and GreaseMonkey! And yes, both of my Ishapores are good shooters, decent common ammo is one real nice benefit

Not as nice as you think, it's a Golden State rebuild. Still fairly accurate and will make your shoulder sore after about a magazine full.Greasemonkey wrote:Sheepdog, Nice No 5Junk Yard Dog wrote:
