SKS and ammo.
This situation of new SKS owners and need for ammo is getting out of hand. If you will hold off buying a $450 Chinese or a Russian for any where from $450 to $1000 even for a refurb you will be wise to do so. Ammo is worse. Surplus Military like the high grade Yugo M67 is is totally in
la la land. A crate of M67 was $189 to $225 until late last fall in most places. Last week it was any where from $500 to just over $700 for a sealed crate of either 1120 or 1260 rounds. Here is just one crate that has the 1120 on stripper clips that actually sold yesterday. Everyone needs to back down and stop fueling this crazy price fire with all semi-auto rifles and the ammo. Enough is enough of this craziness.

Re: SKS and ammo.
But those online places have it often for only a few hours. I saw SG had I think it was 168 of 1000 round cases and they were sold out in about 3 to 4 hours. So, these idiots that want now, now, now are paying any price. Same with SKS rifles. Plus, the online dealers are jacking up prices every time they get more in for the most part. Plus, you are not seeing any Military surplus like the M67 on any online sight. It is flat gone.
Some of the sights that show a X39 price actually do not even have it in stock. It's an unreal mess right now. Driven by panic buying.

Re: SKS and ammo.
I understand panic buying of the guns and mags. But not the panic buying of ammo... If any new bans or restrictions are passed, the ammo will still be around for ban compliant guns, which will be what the arms industry would change to producing correct?

Would ammo be banned too? I really dont think so, maybe some fear that as well

Re: SKS and ammo.
Just stop for a moment and think. You say you understand the panic on guns and magazines. So, what darned good reason is there to panic buy guns and mags with out any ammo to put in them? And yes, ammo regs are already in force in NY and Illinois is trying. In NY you cannot even buy ammo online unless it goes through an FFL as does a firearm. Oh yes, they are also tracking how much ammo you buy there so they know what you have.
Will there be other states do the same also, my guess is in the East there will be. Many manufactures of ammo are sold out already for the next 6 to 9 months. Some are sold out for all of 2013. If you have not already stocked up on some ammo, you will pay the seller his price if you want it.
And that is what people are doing right now to get some ammo actually in hand.

Re: SKS and ammo.
I went to a gun shop the other day, they had two "yugo M59's" for $600. Reason i say so is one looked iffy, stock looked nothing like the M59s i seen and both looked like a mix match of M59 and M59/66 parts. Almost double what i paid for mine at a gun show last Oct and i thought that was a little high but the gun was fantastic shape. They had a sign for x39 (none there thought) at $350 +tax for 1000 rounds.
Dunham's sports has Wolf x39 for 5.79/box, $.30 more than it was a month ago on sale but out of stock. I got the last 6 boxes they had two weeks ago, at least i have "enough" to use sparingly until the panic dies down.

To many to list, many more to get, not enough money :-D

I have my supply already so I intend to sit back and watch the shit storm unfold, I have long warned anybody who would listen that they should stock up while the getting was good.

Re: SKS and ammo.
I don't think it's panic buying anymore. It's become plain that any gun restrictive legislation other than perhaps extended capacity magazines will face an uphill battle and more than likely fall on it's face.
The shortage of ammunition is across the board, no one has any or is getting any other than a dribble here and there. Thinking that perhaps the DHS and other government agencies all decided to call in those contracts that they got months back and all the ammo is going to the government. We can have all the assault rifles we want, since we can't get ammo for them...
This is where my old habit of picking up a box or two of ammo every time I went into Walmart, Dunn's sporting goods or the Buchheits farm and home store comes in handy. I don't have enough on hand for anyone to consider me "hoarding" but enough to ride this lunacy out for six months.
In the meantime I'm stocking up on loose BP subs, 209 primers and found a local caster who's casting up 1k .50 boolits for me, $16 per 100. I can still shoot and not use up any of my cartridge ammo that way.

Re: SKS and ammo.
I sold/swapped my converted Saiga x39 a couple weeks ago on Armslist, guy gave me a Chinese SKS, mid 70's as close as I can tell, unfired as far as I can tell by a complete teardown, and $400. Week later I see the Saiga listed on there for $1600.00... ad was down two days later, either sold or decided to keep it.
I turned the $400 into two more guns, finally fixed the Echasa GZ Spanish .32 and now trying to find decent prices on ammo for it, and a 12 gauge, had no ammo for it either but set now!

Yep, got lucky and tracked down a sale on Fiocchi low-recoil 00buck, 80 rounds in a Plano "ammo box" for $49.99, and have a local farm and home that still has lots of ammo, gonna hit them up tomorrow for some of that Mexican Centurion #7 shotshells to break her in with, but have to stop in at the FFL's to pick up the shotgun first. Hopefully they have some .32ACP on hand too, would make it a great day!

Click on the buyers purchases, all 8 of them, then click on what he bought. I don't think he even owned a gun before 1/2/13. He is typical of what is driving prices up. He has overpaid horribly for everything he bought. He paid 9 times as much for this 39 ammo as I did just 3 weeks ago. Good post OO.

Re: SKS and ammo.
You you know that's just nuts. I can't believe someone would pay that. I know at least 3 online vendors selling Yugo M67 right now. The cheapest one is now $625/1260rds. A user on gun-deals submitted the deal 4 months ago at $525 and people flagged it as being a rippoff the same day. The vendor had 158 crates for sale and still has 145. I know two others that have it but refuse to list it at these prices. The good thing is once this all dies down all these places that did this have a permanent record in on gun-deals for all to see. Same goes for the vendors that refused to join the price hike free-for-all.

Re: SKS and ammo.
It will amount to the dotcom bubble, people buying and buying, this market can only withstand so much before a complete and total collapse. Buying into speculation in the late 90's did basically the same thing as what this is doing, driving prices sky high, after the collapse only a very few items will maintain their price. People flipping weapons for a quick buck or two will eventually max out the market price for said weapons till no one can afford it and the last buyer is stuck with a badly over priced investment.
Speculation buying is bad for any market, because it is what it is, a best guess on future events. Want proof, look at oil prices, heating fuel, gas, diesel, somebody in the middle east throws a rock and poof, gas prices shoot up, or even a hurricane. People panic buy gas every time someone in the middle east gets a hard-on while the rest of us suffer through it. If this guess doesn't pan out, theres gonna be a bunch of broke people paying card interest on all these items. Sure, they can sell the item but will take a severe hit and look stupid trying to sell that $1900 AR or AK bought today in a market that only sustains an $800/900 AR or AK later down the road.
On the buyer side, pockets are only so deep, anyone here with the last name Trump or Gates, eventuality the credit cards, second mortgages, etc will be maxed and unable to sustain the high priced buying. When the two meet, sale prices will be so high and buyers will be so broke, there is when the collapse happens. The bottom falls out, if no new legislature is passed, prices could possibly return to somewhat normal once supply catches up. like what happened on the smaller scale '08/'09 buying spree.
I say save nickels and dimes now, wait and watch, laugh if need be, when the bubble pops, then go about normal life. After all the feds haven't finalized anything as of yet.
