Post by Dragunov sniper 777 »

this is madness , the ammo is just about gone at any price , and reloading componets are not far behind .. all i have been able to find on the internet as well , is some surplus 7.62x54r , and bear 7.62x39 , 22LR is history , i guess if you havent stocked up by now , just forget it SHOL...

i have been told that walmart has suspended ammo orders at this time and sales of ar's and minis ,and others are following too , WTH is really going on here ... :popgun:

Walmart can say that because for the most part they have been suspended by the manufacturer so it really doesn't mean anything anyway. they say orders in the sense of new orders, not ones that were put into the system months ago. Walmart already has orders in the system for product slotted for next Christmas as well as ammo & other products for next Fall's Hunting Season. And if they decide to begin ordering again they will just order a Trainload & be done with it.

The surplus may well be gone, however do not worry about the .22lr. It's the most commonly shot cartridge on earth and we shoot billions of rounds of it every year just here in the US, the ammo manufacturers churn out more of it than any other cartridge made. They will catch up with demand on that one, other stuff like 9mm, or .223 you may have to wait a few months for. What's happening? People are panic buying and at the moment I thing the panic itself is fueling it rather than any threat of legislative action against their rights. Yep, and they will buy anything. I've seen ammo languish on the shelf forever without a single box sell in over 6 months go to sold out in 2 days. It's just plain nuts!

I suspect we will be seeing some of it at flea markets, and tag sales in years to come, or sold on GB as some people realize keeping 20,000 rounds of ammo in the closet of a small apartment is not very convenient. Or they realize that they can't eat it and they spent all their money on it.

I've noticed the last couple of weeks that even the stuff that wasn't selling fast is also disappearing. For a long time 30-06 and 12 gauge was still available, now they are hard to find. I have a skeet league starting on Tuesday, I'm having trouble finding any shells, especially the #8 shot I prefer for it. I had two boxes in, I managed to find four more on Friday evening.

This has become a self feeding frenzy, it's not the administrations threatened legislation driving it, now it's story's about empty gun shops and internet sellers with sold out signs . The gun shops are selling out of ammo, quick, lets get down there and grab us some, the zombies might wake up this weekend! For this reason I always keep on hand what I might need, and I have not bought a single round of ammo in over a month, since well before all the shit started. I also don't have to panic and rush the grocery store hours before a huge snowfall, why? Because I keep food in the house all the time, more than enough to see me through any temporary shortage. Some prepping is a good thing.

I am with JYD, I think things will stabilize eventually. Eventually some of these people buying everything are going to need to make mortgage payments instead of buying ammo. Just be glad the craziness is limited to firearms and ammo. Can you imagine the headache if this craziness spilled over into the gas industry or the food industry?

Yesterday's Sportsman's Guide flyer showed plenty of ammo. Who knows if it is actually in stock.

It most likely is. I usually just go to the actual store in St. Paul that's connected right to the warehouse. The place is enormous. Got some ammo for my Type 99 last I was there. I plan to go back soon for some 30-40 Krag.

I do miss the days of walking out with whole 880 round crates of 7.62x54 & being amazed I only paid $56 a crate. Good times.

We still have loads of smaller shot shotgun shells here and still at regular prices. Other ammo has jumped up an average of $3 a box of 50 on handgun and centerfire, no .22 to be seen at the moment. The manufacturers simple can't make it fast enough to feed the panic buyers. Those of us who buy ammo whenever we walk past it are sitting well enough it seems though...

I take this opportunity to not make light of the situation but to encourage everyone that this will pass but how long it takes is anyones guess. It's also an opportunity to learn from this as it is apparent some did from the more recent one in 2008 but many did not. Plus throw in all the new gun owners who haven't been through this before and you see what we get.

I would like to encourage everyone to just clam down and let things play themselves out and take this opportunity to think ahead and plan for such occasions. As a hunter, shooter, reloader and bullet caster I did just that way back when,I've sat out ever single panic buying frenzy and shot what I wanted when I wanted. Lots of people take things for granted as if it will always be there when you want it at the price you want it and it's just not so. just imagine for a moment if this were food and water or energy to run your vehicle or heat your home or any other basic necessities. It's better to have and not want than to want and not have.

I was going to go to the range today. No .22, 9mm, or .45... I got ammo for social uses, but none I want to burn at the range.

For those trying to understand the dynamic here, it is best understood through "The Beer Game" which is a game that simulates a supply chain. I first learned of it in a book titled "The Fifth Discipline" by Sengi.

Lessons to be learned. Stay ahead in the ammo you usually shoot. In 2008 I bought my LCP and had to pay $35 for a box of cor-bon .380 because there were no .380 to be had in this whole city. People were panic buying ammo and guns. Things settled down and they were all back on the shelf. So I try to have plenty of ammo. This will pass. Don't be the guy who payed $2300 to get the last Bushmaster at the gunshow (happened here). There will probably be some increase in background checks and I suspect that will be it. Do you really think the House of Reps will ban any guns? And lets all remember where AR's are manufactured.
