What about shipping? And what about their callon condition versus nhaving it in your hand and hand picking from 7 on hand? Things aren't always as good as an online buy seems. Sometimes you are lucky and somethimes not but either way you now own it! Bill
your'e forgetting other variables like gas to get there, time, and hassle...I love being able to sit back sometimes and hit the order button and see what arrives, that's half the fun in my opinion !

I'm forgetting? No, In my opinion the best part is to drive, relish the time & it sure is never a hassle! Sure, It's fun to land a gun online, but as an example yesterday was much more preferable. Got to hang out with a good friend, hit some gunshops, browsed, bullshit, talked with other patrons as well as the staff. Spent more than 3 hours at three Gunshops.... An excellent way to spend an afternoon if you ask me.
By utilizing both your local venues as well as the ones on-line is the best process for collecting overall.

At the price they are selling them I can't see an importer wasting time and money trying to clean them, they clean one so they can take pics and use them in the catalog as " a representative piece" so you know what you are ordering and think it's going to look like that when you unbox it. What you get is a block of crud and grease with a gun inside someplace.

I agree. Looks to me it was a storage issue. There's so little profit margin so why waste time trying to polish a turd. Yes I said it, Turd! Their so rough & ugly only a mother or nutjob collectors like us could love them. When I was handling one at Fleet Farm yesterday some guy walks up & suggests I could refinish the stock. I looked at him & said "Nah, I like it just the way it is".
In fact, the only reason I didn't buy one is because the stock wasn't beat up enough. I fell in love with White Horsradish's Driftwood Special™ last time he brought it out for the shoot. I was afraid I would get a sliver from the stock it was that rough. It literally looked like a piece of ratty driftwood. I loved it & I want one just like it.

I was at the Blaine, MN store around noon today and they had 28 of them in the case. I didn't have time to pick one up but I will check the add and hopefully they will be on sale as you suspect.

I was wrong... No sale in the Sunday flier. But don't dispair... I don't think your average Joe will want to Pony up the $$$ for one of these. They are use to the refurb 91/30 rifles & most will turn their nose up at the sight of the white-washed T53's. Maybe they will go on sale next week?
And Hudson, WI had 7 on hand.

I had that white haze on one that I bought last month. I let some Murphey's oil soap soak in and it came off with a green
scrub sponge..it took two applications but it looks pretty good now!!
Went up there again today... All 7 still there. Brought the high-intensity bore light & all had worn sewer pipes with 3 of them with serious internal damage to the bore. It looked as though someone used a steel ramrod to chisel out whole chunks of rifling. Most also had no rifling just past the chamber... These things saw a lot of use & abuse & were very rough IMHO. One, a 56 had a beat but stylin' stock & wasn't too bad overall. I still couldn't justify spending the money though so I passed.

Visited my local Fleet Farm a couple days ago... yep, they've got about 40 of them in back. they're hideously charming. The one I looked at truly looked like it had been dragged behind a truck. the bolt had surface rust, which would have easily cleaned off. Had some cool stock repairs on it; the barrel had rifling, but also lots of lead fouling. It had been rode hard and put away wet.
I passed due to lack of available funds - but maybe next paycheck I'll set aside a bit and look again.

I didn't think type 53s normally came with cleaning rods. I have multiple type 53s and none came with one. Did I get jipped?

Good luck, I hope you find a good one.

These rifles are Balkan imports, not the Omega offerings from the most remote areas of China, your chances of a good bore are much greater.
