Russian vs Chinese
Hello guys just joined this great site.Have a quick question(sorry if asked before) but wondering if there are differences in quality and accuracy between the Russian and Chinese built SKS rifles. Here in Canada there are a good supply of both for around $175.00-$200.00 range and think I better get one while they are hot Thanks

Re: Russian vs Chinese
Quality wise there is not much difference, go with the Russian for nice stocks and historical value, plus there are very rare models to be found. A '49 dated Tula, Izhevsk, non-refurb and so on are pretty rare. The Chinese have more models and some are equally rare and hard to find. The biggest difference is the Chinese expanded development of the rifle, short barrel lugs, and press fit barrels. Which even with those changes the still shoot as good at the original design. Chinese stocks are another difference, different wood, featureless Chu wood and orange shellac Vs. Russian arctic birch with pretty red shellac.
Accuracy wise out of the ones I own, a press barrel Chinese is my most accurate, probably tied with a Romanian SKS I have. Quality wise in metal work, I'd say Russian and Chinese are very close. One thing to keep in mind, the Russians taught the Chinese how to build them, the Chinese took it and ran with it for many years and are still making them probably 50 yrs later.
And $175 to $200 for an SKS is just sickening here in the states
, I'd buy them all day long
Pick the one that speaks to you, it's an SKS, not much will go wrong with it, but if they are the same price, Go Russian

Re: Russian vs Chinese
They both shoot the same, but I would go with the Soviet first, then get the Chinese one next week.

Re: Russian vs Chinese
Definitely get the Russian even in Canada while you can. Word I hear from Canadian Collectors is that the Russians have few left to sell into Canada.
Very possible I guess.

Re: Russian vs Chinese
Russian finish is usually more refined than Chinese, but operational quality and accuracy are very similar.
Many of the early Chinese guns were built with Russian parts and tooling, as well. Can't go wrong with either, so I'm with JYD. Get both!

Re: Russian vs Chinese
at $175 to $200 apiece , buy two of each ....
i am so poor i can only afford mustard and biscuits three times a week ..
Re: Russian vs Chinese
I find that accuracy is the same. Russians are prettier though. If you want a shooter, go with the Marstar $75 deal and bang away. Yuo get a new unissued Type 56 for $75 when you buy a crate of ammo.

What makes you think you will never own one? Kicking the bucket this afternoon or something? Lots of SKS's around and shit has a way of coming along when you least expect it even if it's not supposed to exist were you live.

Re: Russian vs Chinese
Unfortunately the SKS is a prohibited weapon here in Australia, only way to obtain one legally is to become a dealer, which is extremely costly. Or I could move to New Zealand or the USJunk Yard Dog wrote:What makes you think you will never own one? Kicking the bucket this afternoon or something? Coincidentally, the SKS is the weapon of choice for the many biker gangs around here, they are seized almost every week in numbers up to 30 per bust. There are literally hundreds of thousands still here, I've even seen a few for sale online, but it mostly seems the only people able to acquire them are criminals, reportedly there are over 400,00 unregistered SKS' and SKK's in the Sydney area, a lot of good our gun ban did eh?

Re: Russian vs Chinese
Same deal as gun bans here, people just hide them away, and don't report them when they get stolen, or they die and the relitives sell them on the black market.

Re: Russian vs Chinese
For the most part, you could say so. There's basically an underground war going on over here with the various biker factions, even the mob gets involved, you hear about shootings between rival groups almost every week in the northern parts of the country, the main gangs in the turf war here are the Bandidos, the Coffin Cheaters, the Comancheros, the Hell's Angels, the Nomads and the Rebels, most have roughly 500-600 members. Sounds ridiculous, but it is a reality.Junk Yard Dog wrote:Wait a minute.....you mean all that Mad Max crazy biker gang stuff is real??![]()

Re: Russian vs Chinese
That's the last time I laugh at a Mad Max movie, damn, that sounds worse than the shit they get up to here. Mob? As in La cosa nostra? Italian Mafia? The Godfather and the five family's? The things you don't read about in all the tourist brochures that go on about visiting sunny, friendly Australia
SKS toting killer biker gangs, mobsters, I am afraid to find out what else they left out.
Australia is starting to sound like Brooklyn.
