M44
M44
Picked up this M44 at a local gun shop. Had been sitting around for a long time. Still had the Century International Arms tags on it. Bore looks excellent, head space good.
There are a few things that have got me curious. The laminate stock has no wrist bolt (not really that odd) early style bayonet mount, no year markings. (no date under mounting tang)
If the date markings have been scrubbed, they did an excellent job! very smooth. The bayonet was mounted at some time, as I can see where it has rubbed on the rear handguard band.
The importers info is very tiny and under the barrel. That I like! Looking forward to cleaning her up and getting out to the range.

I paid $250.00 out the door. Maybe could have gotten one cheaper online, but I was able to check this one out carefully and take
it home within 1/2 hour! I have a couple of 91/30's and a SKS, but never a "short" Mosin. I have been told that the muzzle flash
is something. Still bugs me not knowing the exact year.

Take a few pics of it from different angles and see if anything shows up on the flash. Maybe on the tang too. My bet is on a 44.

If it makes you feel better, going price here (if you can find one) is two fifty. Our higher.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Cool carbine! I like it!
I agree that the amount of variation that can be found (discovered) is where the most enjoyment comes in.

Re: M44
Under extreme lighting and magnification, I can just make out a 45 and that reverse r at the end. Still dosn't explain why they would scrub the date.

Re: M44
I recently saw a scrubbed m44 just like yours but it wasn't as neatly done. Had me scratching my head.
