No more Mosins?

Post by SteveC »

My local gun shop that has sold Mosins for years has finaly thru in the towel. They said their supply is gone and they are now out of the Mosin business. I checked on line and all the dealers that I know are also out. Is this the end of the re-arsenaled Mosins?

I don't think so. People are making money off these so I don't see them stoping. I think demand has put pasted supply but I bet they will catch up in a few months.

At least I'm praying I'm right.

How many millions of these fine rifles were made? I can't believe that this is the end. Not when I just started collecting!

I think in about 6 months you are going to see a lot of people trying to figure out what to do with their "investment"

I don't think they are running out. Dealers are stocking what sells for the best money and that does not include Mosins. Hold tight.

In the mean time, check your local gun store. A lot of people are trading in stuff now to buy shiney new plastic rifles.

Local shops no longer have racks of mosins to look through like before. This started pre sandy hook.

Now, I might see one mosin on the rack and its $170

Sooner or later they will run out, we always hear about the millions made but nobody thinks about the toll war takes on small arms. How many are no more than rusty fragments in some Russian field, lost at sea, blown to bits, or just used until flat worn out? There are sure to be some more in the pipeline, the big importers will be sitting on a supply waiting for something like this to happen so they can up the price for them.

I can see the prices of bolt guns including mosins and other milsurps going up in NY now that it's illegal to own an AR, AK, etc. Good news is they exempted C&R rifles, bad news is they are bound to become very popular and with that comes high prices!

Remember too that these are Ukrainian refurbs. The Soviets stockpiled rifles in other areas too but due to import laws these rifles can't be imported right now. The reason these refurbs became available is that the Ukraine became an independent country, and only a % of the stockpiled mosins were stored there from what I've read. The others in other (Russian) areas may be un-importable for who knows how long.

Molot seems to be taking care of that by importing them as "sporting rifles"

Milsurp rifles cycle by nature and by design of dealers. Sooner or later their money will run short and they will be back with higher prices and many explanations for the price. Sometimes they do disappear but I don't think this is the case here. Remember we are having a great rifle grab by OB coming up so they want to see if that does indeed make the rifles they now have worth more which I think it will. Most of them sold off all the AR's and AK's they had for great profits and now they want to do the same thing with Mosins and other bolt rifles which they are hoping will be the only legal alternative for the semi's they sold off. Whatever happens OB has been the best rifle salesman in the history of this country! Soros comes out with 19 points for the US to consider and OB mysteriously or coincidently has 19 points on his program. Just another point to what drives politics and our country at will. Money and the making of it. Bill :o

Once you have been in this game for awhile you realize that what looks to be plentiful today can vanish forever in an instant. 25 years back I could go into the local shop and select from a rack that had five M1 Garands, a few carbines, ten Enfields and six or seven Finn Mosins on it. Even three or four US M1903's, but of course as the market absorbed these and no more came in to keep the pipeline going that was that. With the Mosins we had an uncommonly large number of them come in, the flow lasted for over a decade, so long that people start to forget that there are limits, and are surprised when they flow slows.

As of monday SOG still had some in stock. They list them as out of stock on their website, but the lady I spoke to on the phone told me they have some in stock.

Fyi it's not illegal to own ak's and ar's ...it's illegal to have more than one feature on them and illegal to have a clip that holds more than 10 rounds and if it does hold 10 rounds you can only put 7 rounds in it at one time.

Just picked up a second one from J & G here in Prescott, paid $119.99 for it also some ammo, with stripper clips 300 rounds for $69.00. Yeah, I know it's corrisive primer stuff.
They don't show Mosins on their website anymore, you have to come in and ask.
